The Department of Biology at the University of South Dakota is recruiting an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in Animal Physiology to begin August 2022. Applicants should demonstrate potential for outstanding classroom teaching and student mentoring, as well as a commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusive excellence. Candidates whose research questions link organismal physiological traits to their cellular and molecular underpinnings will be given preference. The successful candidate’s research will complement that of existing faculty, enabling collaboration and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students. Ongoing support for basic physiology research with biomedical implications is available via the Nolop Medical Biology Endowment. Opportunities for collaboration extend beyond the Biology Department to faculty in the Sanford Medical School, School of Health Sciences, and Basic Biomedical Sciences. Teaching may include participation in an Introductory Biology course (physiology section) and/or upper division courses in Mammalian Physiology, Comparative Physiology, Cellular Physiology, or other courses in support of the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to establish a productive and extramurally funded research program that engages undergraduate students and actively trains M.S. and Ph.D. students. A Ph.D. is required and postdoctoral experience is preferred.

Review of applications will begin January 15, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants must apply online at https://yourfuture.sdbor.edu and must provide a cover letter that describes background with respect to the qualifications listed above, a CV, statements of research and teaching interests, and names and contact information for at least three professional references.  The teaching statement should address one’s ability to interact with students from a variety of backgrounds.

Questions regarding the position may be directed to Dr. Dave Swanson, Search Committee Chair, Department of Biology (David.Swanson@usd.edu).
