Vanderbilt Divinity School seeks applications and nominations for the Director of Field Education beginning June 1, 2022. The faculty appointment will be made as a non-tenure track professor of the practice (rank open). Field Education is the heart of the MDiv curriculum at VDS, deeply respected by the faculty, and highly valued by students in multiple degree programs. The program offers outstanding opportunities for discernment, placement, and growth in a remarkably wide range of ministerial and public religious leadership placements.

The appointment entails teaching the two semester Field Education Seminar (required for MDiv candidates/optional for MTS and ThM), advanced Field Education courses, occasional core institutional courses such as Senior Seminar and Foundations in Theological Education, and potential collaborations within the renewed Doctor of Ministry program. The administrative leadership of the Field Education program includes mentoring and training of students, supervisors, and Field Education seminar leaders, as well as extensive cultivation of partnerships for student placements. The Director will also collaborate in hiring and supervising an Assistant/Associate Director of the program.

The ideal candidate will have completed a Ph.D. or D.Min. (or, similar degree) and have a demonstrated track record of teaching, administrative, and guild excellence related to theory-praxis learning within theological education. Moreover, the candidate should possess demonstrated capacity to teach a wide variety of religiously diverse students in an expansive range of vocational trajectories, and in many arenas of the public sphere where our Commitments are embodied (see: https://divinity.vanderbilt.edu/about/purposes.php). We especially welcome applications from underrepresented candidates. Vanderbilt Divinity School has strong commitments to social justice and places a high value on diversity among its faculty and student body, as well as in praxis and teaching.

Personal inquiries and confidential nominations may be directed to the search chair, Dr. Melissa Snarr (Melissa.snarr@vanderbilt.edu). The search committee will begin formal review of applications January 21, 2022. Cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of three references should be submitted via Interfolio: http://apply.interfolio.com/100131.  References will be contacted for submission of formal letters of recommendation by the Divinity School.
