Position Summary

Trinity College seeks a staff that reflects the changing demographics of our student body. The Director of Faculty Grants and Sponsored Research is responsible for promoting and supporting efforts to secure federal, state, corporate, and foundation funding for faculty grants and fellowships, as well as support for the College’s institutional priorities at-large. The Director is a member of the Grants Office in the Office of the Dean of Faculty and reports to the Senior Director of the Grants Office.

The Director is responsible for the review and administration of all faculty and institutional grant proposals to federal and state government agencies and to other public and private agencies that fund scholarly research as well as academic programming, facilities and equipment. They will:
  • Disseminate information about appropriate sources and provide individualized support to faculty members seeking funding for research, program, or performance projects.
  • Analyze and interpret federal regulations, proposal guidelines, policies, and contracts. Communicate critical elements of grantor regulations to the campus community.
  • Recommend, develop, and maintain campus compliance systems and policies for federal regulations, legal documents, audit reports, and proposal guidelines. Participate in reviewing and developing general College policies pertaining to faculty grant support.
  • Prepare and/or review proposal budgets. Ensure that all proposals and budget submissions comply with College personnel, compensation, academic, and other relevant policies. Maintain general oversight of all research budgets, and, with the College Accounting Office, ensure the effective administration of all awards. Ensure compliance with all grantor reporting requirements.
  • Upon request, review and edit grant proposal material for both internal and external funding.
  • Maintain effective communication with academic and administrative departments, particularly the Office of the Dean of Faculty, as well as with special faculty committees and working groups, and non-departmental centers of faculty scholarship and research.
  • Through regular contact with other grants professionals, learn about current best practices in sponsored research and government grant administration. Keep informed of funding agency concerns and interest through ongoing contacts, research, and attendance at periodic meetings.
  • Track proposals in progress, pending, and submitted capturing pertinent information. Provide appropriate publicity within the College of grants received. Maintain and update website providing information about faculty grants and related activities.
  • Serve ex-officio (non-voting member) on the Faculty Research Committee ( FRC ) and the Institutional Review Board ( IRB ). Provide administrative assistance as required.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree or terminal degree in academic discipline preferred. Familiarity with academic research processes. Three to five years of experience in sponsored research, government grants, and higher education preferred.

Strong leadership, writing, editing and communication skills. Ability to balance competing priorities and/or deadlines. Highly organized and excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Experience with and comfort using electronic grant submission systems.
