Tenure-track position in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a focus on contemporary urban transportation challenges.

The Wayne State University (WSU) Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) invites you to apply for a tenure-track faculty position in the transportation discipline.  Our faculty team confronts contemporary urban infrastructure challenges from an interdisciplinary perspective and we are seeking a new member with experience in the general areas of transportation planning, economic analysis, and user behavior with specific applications to transportation equity, autonomous vehicle technology, and the role of multi-modal transportation in emergent smart cities.

As a part of our faculty team, new members teach undergraduate and graduate courses in transportation-specific and traditional civil engineering curriculum.  Instruction will involve development of cutting-edge courses and mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students.  We expect that all faculty members develop and maintain a funded research program and transform research results into insightful peer-reviewed publications and reports.  We will evaluate the record of research funding and publication history as per the applicant’s current level of experience.  To accelerate research and mentoring work, the successful candidate will seek out collaborative opportunities within our institution and partners at city, state, federal-level, and international organizations and agencies.

The basic requirement is a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from an accredited university, and either a P.E. license in hand, or intent to obtain this in the near term, post-appointment.

Wayne State University is a premier, public, urban research university located in the heart of Detroit where students from all backgrounds are offered a rich, high quality education.  Our deep rooted commitment to excellence, collaboration, integrity, diversity and inclusion creates exceptional educational opportunities preparing students for success in a diverse, global society.  WSU encourages applications from women, people of color, and other underrepresented people. Wayne State is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.

We are one of only three institutions in Michigan to hold the Carnegie “Highest Research Activity (R1)” and “Very High Community Engagement” designations.  WSU’s 13 schools and colleges offer more than 350 major subject areas to more than 25,000 graduate and undergraduate students.

The CEE Department promotes a culture of collaboration, integrity, diversity and inclusion, offering BSCE, MSCE, and Ph.D. Civil Engineering degree programs.  We are a research-active faculty with a deep-rooted commitment to teaching future engineers who will work in an increasingly pluralistic and diverse arena of civil and environmental infrastructure, and researching the challenges of rapidly-aging infrastructure that is now confronted with new and emergent stresses.  Our academic work is supported by an increasingly diverse research portfolio from federal, state, local and private sources averaging in the millions annually for the past 5 years.  More information about our department can be found at: http://engineering.wayne.edu/cee/.

Application Material Applicants should apply online at http://jobs.wayne.edu by clicking “Search Postings” and entering 046050 in the “Posting Number” category.  Electronic applications must include a cover letter, statement of research and teaching, and curriculum vitae with the contact information of three references (names and addresses).  Full consideration will be given to applications received by December 31, 2021, though applications may be considered until the position is filled.  If selected for this position, appointment would start for the Fall 2022 semester.
