Position Summary

The Dean is responsible for providing the overall vision, long-term planning, and operational oversight for the college and is expected to pursue new opportunities to best serve students and the needs of the region. The college consists of eleven academic departments and multiple graduate programs. These include several top-ranked, accredited programs in the allied health professions. The Dean of the College of Science and Health reports to the Provost/Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and will serve alongside the Deans of the other academic colleges, the School of Education, Graduate and Extended Learning, and the Director of the Library.

Description of College / Department / Program / Division / Unit

The College of Science and Health ( CSH ) is a dynamic college representing a wide range of disciplines including natural and physical sciences, mathematics, computer science, public health, health professions, physical education, recreation, and exercise science. CSH is the largest college at UWL, serving almost half of undergraduates and most graduate students. The hallmark of the college is a culture dedicated to student learning where research and experiential learning opportunities take priority, and in which enthusiastic faculty and staff intellectually challenge students in a supportive, professional environment. The college has a premiere, state-of-the-art laboratory science building and has active collaborations within the region and community with local healthcare providers, service organizations, government agencies, and businesses. Required Qualifications
  • Academic Credentials: The Dean will have a proven record of teaching, scholarship, and service sufficient to qualify for appointment at the rank of full professor and tenure in one of the college’s departments and will have an earned doctoral degree (or recognized equivalent) from a regionally accredited university.
  • Leadership and Administrative Experience: strong record of relevant, progressively responsible administrative and management experience, including strong budget and personnel skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to ethical, honest, and transparent leadership practices.
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building relationships within the college, across the university, and with alumni, business, scientific and/or health-related communities.
  • Evidence of data-driven decision-making associated with university and college values determined by strategic planning.
  • Familiarity and experience with supporting and advancing a college culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, belongingness, and cultural humility.
  • Familiarity and experience with current assessment and accreditation practices for undergraduate, graduate, and clinical programs.
  • Demonstrated record of leadership, resulting in continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Experience in fundraising.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, international students and international programs.
