POSITION TITLE: Online Course Developer & Technician - Remote

 

The Online Course Developer & Technician creates engaging and innovative learning experiences in partnership with the college’s faculty and subject matter experts. The creation process would include establishing new courses as well as improving courses. This position also places content inside the LMS, sets up master courses properly, including dates and grading, handles internal LMS coding issues in HTML, HTML5, CSS, and Java.

This is a remote position.

Jarvis uses Quality Matters and internal standards to review and approve courses.

This position is outcome oriented, not time focused.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in instructional design, education, education technology, technical communication, or other field related to duties
  • Previous experience in course design, development, and implementation in online learning management systems
  • Basic understanding of LMS course administration
  • Basic understanding of HTML, HTML5, CSS, and Java
  • Proven experience collaborating with faculty and subject matter experts
  • Strong project management and independent time management skills
  • Exceptional written communication skills and strong oral communication skills
  • Ability to create effective learning experiences that are cohesive inside the course and with connected courses, including developing interactive learning pieces and optimizing learning management tools
  • Strong understanding of andragogy, online learning, and current trends and research in online course delivery
  • Understanding of Quality Matters standards for course development

 PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Effective instructional design experience in D2L Brightspace LMS
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro (or similar tools)
  • Proven experience in various styles of assessment design both as a teaching method and for mastery assessment

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops content within quality and quantity standards of the College from SME basic content information approved by faculty
  • Assists in course quality reviews
  • Provides technical support for course content implementation inside the LMS for faculty and staff
  • Assists in quality review of course content and presentation
  • Develops various types of content including video, graphics, assessment questions, and interactive pieces to create engaging content effective at helping faculty and students achieve student learning outcomes
  • Continue professional skill development in areas related to online course development and content creation

 KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of web coding, including HTML, HTML5, CSS, and Java
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders
  • Must be detailed oriented, able to set priorities and meet deadlines with a strong aptitude for quality control and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to utilize technology effectively and efficiently

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Seeing: 75 - 100%

Must be able to read content and use computer—or utilize assistive technology

Hearing: 75 - 100%

Must be able to evaluate media and audio files for sound quality

  •  Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 0 - 24% 
  • Dexterity/Grasping/Feeling: 75 - 100%

Must be able to write, type, and use phone system and other technical devices
