The Media Studies program at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Media Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning fall semester 2022. We seek applications from critical makers whose practice and scholarship are interdisciplinary and connect in unique ways to visual, sonic, digital, and/or time-based arts in order to support productive collaborations across the School of Design and Communication, the College of Fine Arts and Communication, and the rest of the university. Candidates should hold a terminal degree in media production with specialization in multiplatform storytelling that engages both traditional formats for audio/music and video production and recent forms of digital content creation including social media, digital branding, multimedia journalism, web streaming, and podcasting.
Responsibilities include teaching, advising, student supervision, and professional development including an agenda of research and/or creative activities relevant in the field. The successful candidate will teach a 4/4 course load that covers various levels of media production (including, for example, Foundations of Media Practice: Time, Motion, and Video, Documentary Production, Effective Podcasting, and Audio/Music Recording); perform student advising duties including working with our student media organizations such as SPTV, 90FM, and the Pointer newspaper; and provide service to the university community. The department is particularly interested in candidates who have the communication abilities and cross-cultural competencies to foster diversity and inclusion among groups of students, colleagues, and community members
Required Qualifications
- Terminal degree in media production (MFA or PhD; ABD considered
for initial appointment, with completion of doctorate required
within 1 year of appointment).
• Experience with media production software including Adobe
Creative Cloud and/or similar media production tools
• Demonstrated ability to develop and teach media production and
editing courses at the introductory and advanced level
• Demonstrated ability to conduct research and/or creative
activities relevant in the field
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in teaching audio production and recording, social
media, digital branding, media writing, web streaming, podcasting,
media and arts management, media law, and video art
• Ability to teach diverse groups
• Ability to work with student organizations
