Department Summary
The College of Design (DSGN) is a multidisciplinary academic unit with approximately 100 tenure-related faculty members, 150 non-tenure-related faculty members, 50 staff, and 1,700 student majors in 9 departments and programs (23 degree programs). DSGN has a general fund allocation of $24 million with operations in both Eugene and Portland. Facilities Support Services maintains all College of Design spaces in Eugene as well as provides building access, equipment checkout, and other services for students, faculty, and staff.
Position Summary
The Facilities Services Director serves as the principal officer in providing direction for DSGN Facilities Support Services and operations in Eugene, directing staff and resources required to properly manage and maintain facilities within the College of Design. The Director ensures that facilities serve the pedagogical and administrative needs of the College, including fabrication spaces such as wood, metal, ceramic, and plastic shops within available budgetary means and relevant policies.
The Facilities Services Director reports to the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration and communicates challenges and concerns related to health and environmental safety in pursuit of timely resolution. The Director is responsible for providing senior leadership with assessments of emerging budgetary and/or operational problems or concerns and works closely with UO central facilities in establishing and adhering to policies and best practices. The Facilities Services Director directly manages the budget for DSGN Facilities Support Services and the DSGN Workshops.
This position directs and supervises a team of 5 classified staff, as well as multiple student workers throughout the year. The Facilities Services Director works with staff to provide daily facilities support and maintain all College of Design spaces in Eugene, including woodshops and studio spaces. Major facilities include Lawrence Hall, Pacific Hall, Millrace and Fine Arts Buildings, 942 Olive, Hendricks Hall, Gerlinger Hall, 510 Oak, and other off-campus locations as required.
Work Conditions and Physical Demands
Physical demands include overhead work on ladders, heavy lifting (50+ lbs), stair climbing, bending, stretching, reaching, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, extensive walking on hard smooth finishes as well as uneven surfaces and prolonged periods of exertion. Work conditions may be in basement spaces, noisy areas, and dimly lit spaces.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and 2 years of progressively responsible
facility management experience; OR an equivalent combination of
education and experience, substituting one year of experience for
every year of education.
- Two years of direct supervisory experience; OR three years of
lead work experience directing the work of other trade
professionals.

practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage several requirements or projects
simultaneously.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
(e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Demonstrated working knowledge of scheduling and/or project
management software.
Preferred Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business
Administration, Public Administration, or related field.
- Experience managing higher education facilities.
- Experience establishing, managing, and tracking operational
budgets.
- One year of experience in the operation of forklifts.
