Director of Engineering Education Innovation and Assistant to the Dean



Job Responsibilities

The Citadel School of Engineering is currently seeking a Director of Engineering Education Innovation and Assistant to the Dean. The employee will work in a collaborative team environment to perform a variety of complex, time-sensitive, and diverse duties for the Dean and The School of Engineering related to program management, student success, budgeting and finance, proposal and curriculum development, inclusion and outreach, marketing, office management, and event planning.
  • Will take initiative to develop appropriate systems and processes with the guidance of the Dean for the efficient organization, tracking, planning, and execution of school wide projects from inception to completion.

  • Increase the efficiency of internal infrastructure, grant development and management within the school and with pertinent offices on campus. Assist the Dean with ABET and other accreditation efforts.

  • Provides innovative ideas, strategies, proposals, and programs related to improving student success and retention;will also include student success and advising program development.

  • Co-supervising graduate students responsible for engineering student success and advising activities. supervising students and working collaboratively with offices on campus to develop and manage engineering student success programs including academic coaching, internship and co-op programs, grand challenge scholars program, and study abroad.
  • Manages engineering budgets; track account spending and transfers in Banner system and budget cash flow spreadsheet; serve as the Resource Advisor for the School of Engineering and attend all related training.

  • Assist dean with SOE sponsorship and proposal opportunities; as well as coordinates annual TCF Faculty Research Grants and all Faculty development/presentation of research expenses.

  • Serve as purchase card liaison to ensure accurate files and receipts are managed and Purchase Cards are reconciled each month.

  • Responsible for SOE education and research proposal management and development; responsible for engineering education innovation and related faculty development and training.

  • Assist faculty in incorporating innovative teaching and curriculum including design thinking and entrepreneurial mindset; developing interdisciplinary programs across schools, students, and industries; interfacing, preparing data presentations, and managing events that include the SOE executive advisory board, alumni, graduate schools, STEM non-profit organizations, foundations, government agencies, industry representatives and potential students and parents; scheduling, planning and executing events and meetings.

  • Advise the Dean and oversee strategic marketing and communications for the school of engineering, departments and programs.
  • Under the direction of the Dean, oversee the strategic development of department and SOE marketing collateral, including recruitment materials, publications (print and electronic), and other electronic media.
  • Assists the Dean with the creation and development of a strategic annual recruitment plan for the School of Engineering and provide delegation to student success services program coordinators and GAs as needed.
  • Advise the Dean in providing strategic direction, oversight, and accountability for student success programs, outreach, and recruiting programs.
  • Assist the dean in supervising student success/student services programs coordinators, graduate students, and work-study students.
  • Assist and advise the Dean in developing strategic communications and relations with alumni, donors, industry and community partners.

We are seeking an engineering education expert to assist our faculty, staff, and students achieve this vision and to assist the Dean on relevant projects and administrative tasks for the School.

Minimum Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in a STEM field AND a Master’s degree.
  • Must have a passion for student success and innovation.
  • Must be able to travel and be able to occasionally work nights and weekends.
  • Must have experience using Microsoft Office including OneDrive.
  • Must be able to develop social media campaigns and create effective posts for the School of Engineering; as well as update design on web pages.
  • Excellent writing skills including the ability to write and develop marketing materials and educational proposals.
Preferred Requirements
  • A Master’s degree in engineering OR a Master’s degree in education with significant STEM project experience.
  • Progressive experience in an academic setting.
  • Familiarity with design thinking, entrepreneurial mindset, engineering grand challenges, and other innovative engineering teaching practices a plus.
