The Department of Art and Design at Purdue University Fort Wayne seeks applicants for a full-time position of Assistant Professor of Practice in Interior Design. The position requires a full teaching load. The position will start in August 2022. Review of application materials will start on January 15, 2021, and continue until the position is filled.

 

This position comes with a competitive salary and benefits and is contingent upon available funding and a satisfactory background records check.  Purdue will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

 

 

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

 

  • Teaching a range of studio and lecture courses. The successful candidate will teach four undergraduate courses per semester in Fall and Spring in the Interior Design Program.
  • Developing and teaching new courses in needed areas in the Interior Design Program’s curriculum.
  • Advising Interior Design students in the Interior Design Program.
  • Participating in service activities in the department and university, including instructional service, and other duties as needed.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Interior Design or a related discipline.
  • Full-time professional interior design or architectural design practice experience is required.
  • Teaching experience in university/college teaching in Interior Design or architectural design is required.
  • Candidates must demonstrate the potential to teach courses in interior design in one or more of the following areas: design studio course, interior materials, lighting and color, professional practice, drawing techniques, interior design details, interior history, and design software.
  • Professional knowledge must include design theories, programming, residential and commercial design, building code, and building systems.
  • Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in design software including but not limited to AutoCAD/Revit, SketchUp, and Photoshop, and the ability to teach courses using software.
  • Please indicate other qualifications such as successful completion of the NCIDQ examination and professional memberships in interior design professional organizations.
  • Ability to support, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate undergraduate students
  • Willingness to learn and adopt University Learning Management System (Brightspace), and to integrate appropriate technologies into the teaching and learning process.

  • Twenty (20) samples of students work as evidence of teaching effectiveness
  • List of names and contact information of at least three references
