Planned Giving Associate Director - (STA005452)

Manages a portfolio of planned giving prospects who are likely to be major gifts donors in support of university-wide initiatives or for an assigned college or unit. Possesses a high level of knowledge and expertise in areas of gift planning strategies and deferred giving vehicles and is knowledgeable about major gifts, general fundraising and estate and financial planning fundamentals.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of various gift planning programs, marketing initiatives and communications strategies.

  • Manages a portfolio of prospects mostly at the level of $100,000 or more for outright and planned gifts.

  • Identifies, cultivates and solicits prospects, and stewards donors; works with administrators, faculty, staff and volunteers as appropriate.

  • May be assigned to work with one or more colleges or units to develop strategic gifts plans for those units.

  • If assigned to a college or unit, may be responsible for creating and implementing a development plan for components within the assigned college or unit, including resource management.

  • Participates in University-wide development activities as needed.

  • May lead staff in the absence of the director.

  • Performs other duties as required.


Qualifications :

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years experience.

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of analytical, technical or professional discipline or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal,directly job related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.

Have the Ability to:

  • Cultivate benefactors to secure planned gifts at the leadership levels.
  • Work with Development colleagues and academic leadership to develop and execute solicitation strategies that merge the philanthropic interests of a benefactor with the priorities of the University.
  • Work closely with benefactors and their advisors to select and implement the use of appropriate gift planning vehicles to maximize the gift to the University and the tax advantages for the benefactor.
  • Develop and present detailed proposals to benefactors to provide information about giving options, tax implications of each option, and University policies regarding the implementation of various gift strategies.
  • Prepare and review gift documentation with the assistance of Gift Planning support staff including but not limited to trust agreements, gift agreements, and bequest provisions.
  • Assist benefactors and their attorneys, CPA's, and other advisors with research regarding tax, estate planning, and financial implications of various gift structures.
  • Manage certain financial and administrative functions of the Gift Planning Office.
  • Consult with, advise, and train collaborative partners, development staff, volunteers, and professional advisors on deferred giving practices and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of estate planning techniques, tax law and the general body of statutory, regulatory, and case law regarding planned gifts would be helpful in this role.

  • Experience working directly with clients.

  • Experience with legal research and drafting skills.

  • Preference is for a Law degree or CPA or CFP certification for this role.
