Position Details
The Office of Advancement builds lifelong relationships with alumni, parents, and friends, and engages them in support of Wesleyan’s educational mission and financial goals. The Advancement team fosters pride in the Wesleyan community and develops support for university initiatives through outreach activities, including development/fundraising; alumni and parent relations; and on and off-campus events.

Advancement Operations is responsible for the strategic design, development, and implementation of operational functions that provide a foundation for the Office of Advancement to achieve its goals in fundraising and constituent engagement. The department is charged with aligning business support functions, policies and procedures, and technology infrastructure within the strategies, resources, and priorities of the University.

Reporting to the Associate Director for Advancement Operations, the Social Media Specialist will execute the Office of Advancement’s social media program including strategy development, tactical execution, and reporting/analytics.

Responsibilities include:
  • Identify, develop and execute strategic social media content for Advancement’s core audiences.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to track and report on social media metrics. Interpret results and make recommendations to grow audiences and increase overall engagement.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and campus partners to drive overall engagement.
  • Identify and monitor trends in social media and new ways to engage audiences.
  • Evaluate and advise on paid/promoted strategies for social media.
  • Manage and maintain a social media content calendar.
  • Provide live coverage during Homecoming/Family Weekend, Reunion & Commencement, and other events as assigned.
  • Recruit and manage a team of student interns to assist with content coverage and production.
  • Design assets for email, web, and social media use.
  • Create documentation outlining social media strategies and outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of previous work experience in social media communications or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Excellent copywriting skills.
Ability to deliver creative content (text, image and video).
Proficiency with MS Office suite of tools (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, Excel). Proficiency with design, photo and video editing software (e.g. Canva, Adobe, etc.).
Demonstrated passion for social media and proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter). Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while working with varied personalities and work styles.
Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with graphic design software.
Experience working with social media management systems (e.g. Hootsuite, Falcon)
Demonstrated history of establishing KPIs, analyzing results, and creating strategy.
