Adjunct Faculty-Engineering (Automation and Advanced Manufacturing)

Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.
Position Summary:
Massachusetts Bay Community College invites applications for an adjunct faculty position in the engineering department from qualified applicants. Responsibilities will include developing and teaching courses in areas of advanced manufacturing including robotics and automation. They will also demonstrate an ability to engage, mentor, and work with diverse student populations. They will be comfortable offering hands-on laboratory courses by implementing active learning strategies using current computer technologies, software, and laboratory equipment. The candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, collaboration, and professional development.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching and promoting success among a diverse student population. The candidate is expected to commit to excellence in teaching and learning, collaboration and professional development. Adjunct faculty are expected to deliver course materials in a learner-centered environment conductive to engaging students in the learning process. The faculty member in this position communicates consistently and effectively with students, faculty and administrators, and responds to communications within a 24 hour period of time. The faculty is responsible for managing this course through timely grading of assignments, providing substantial student feedback with assignments, and submission of clinical evaluations, attendance and grades.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Prepare syllabi and develop curricula to address course/program requirements, and student learning outcomes to meet graduation competencies as appropriate;
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in teaching and learning;
  • Submit midterm and final grade reports, attendance records, early alerts, and other reports pertaining to assigned courses by required due dates;
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering or a relevant field and at least 5 years of paid occupational experience;
  • Experience or training in using a variety of advanced manufacturing and other relevant tools and equipment including but not restricted to microcontrollers, microprocessors, PLC, CNC, 3D-Printers.

  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • A Masters in Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineering or a related field;
  • Experience with project-based learning modality;
  • Experience teaching courses in advanced manufacturing;Experience teaching online courses using tools like Cisco WebEx, ZOOM, Google Classroom, etc.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $1,132.00 - 1,367.00 DCE Per Credit
