The Opportunity

The Higgins Research Group within the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the Colorado School of Mines has an opening for a full-time Postdoctoral Scientist (Postdoc). This salaried position would require a commitment of 40hrs/week and is benefits eligible. The anticipated appointment length for this position is 2 years. 

The Postdoc will work on multiple projects centered on the fate and transport of poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in environmental systems and will involve the quantification of organic compounds using mass spectrometry (MS)-based techniques (i.e. LC-MS).

The successful candidate will demonstrate an enthusiasm for the project, a willingness to learn, a commitment to work cooperatively, and must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities Primary responsibilities are to assist with as well as lead technical efforts on several large research projects. Specific roles and responsibilities in support of the projects may include: (1) participation in experimental and analysis of samples related to PFASs; (2) preparation of any reports and/or meeting abstracts and presentations related to the work; (3) preparation of any manuscripts documenting the findings of the research, and (4) laboratory and/or research project management activities to ensure successful completion of the proposed research by the project team. Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. with training in environmental chemistry, environmental engineering, analytical chemistry, or a closely related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the following areas:
    • LC-MS analysis (including targeted and non-targeted methods) and sample preparation for analysis of organic contaminants in complex matrices
    • PFAS chemistry and mobility
    • Non-targeted data analysis methods and multivariate statistical analysis
    • Environmental modeling (fate and transport of contaminants)
  • Significant record of productivity as demonstrated through peer reviewed publications

Pay Range

$50,000- $63,000
