The Opportunity

The Department of Computer Science at Colorado School of Mines (Mines) is looking to hire multiple Teaching Professors that have a clear passion for conveying knowledge to novice software professionals.  We are looking for superb teachers who inspire students and will advance the University’s commitment to diversity.  Each successful candidate must be able to teach a variety of computer science core and elective courses, including, but not limited to, courses such as: Introduction to Computer Science, Data Structures, and Software Engineering. Candidates should also plan to support departmental recruiting efforts, coordinate multi-section courses (including supervision and training of adjunct professors and teaching assistants), and participate in curriculum innovations and improvements.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possess a Ph.D. or M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or another closely related field.
  • Teaching Assistant Professor: Potential for excellence in teaching and educational service.
  • Teaching Associate Professor: Demonstrated record of teaching excellence and evidence of educational service.
  • Teaching Full Professor: Demonstrated record of qualifications for Teaching Associate Professor plus leadership and application of educational research.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven experience leading and teaching multi-section courses.
  • Experience teaching introductory programming and core-level courses
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.

The CS Department currently has 13 tenured/tenure track faculty, 7 teaching faculty, and 2 Professors of Practice. The department offers a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Computer Science with approximately 975 undergraduate and 150 graduate students.
