Job Summary

The University of Colorado is hiring for an Associate Technical Director. This position will support the success of the Colorado Shakespeare Festival.

For over 60 seasons, the Colorado Shakespeare Festival has delighted audiences with classic theatre under the stars.

The Colorado Shakespeare Festival is a professional theatre company in association with the University of Colorado Boulder. Since 1958, the festival has celebrated and explored Shakespeare and his continuing influence and vitality through productions of superior artistic quality, education and community engagement.

CSF strives to preserve the classics of the past and pursue the classics of the future. Fueled by artistry and scholarship, the festival seeks to expand the cultural richness of the region by inspiring, challenging and cultivating the imagination of audiences and artists.

Plays are performed beneath summer night skies in the historic Mary Rippon Outdoor Theatre and in the newly renovated indoor University Theatre.

The festival’s education programs reach tens of thousands of school children each year through camps, classes and outreach performances that connect them with the continuing tradition and importance of Shakespeare.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Work in collaboration with the Technical Director on two productions including scene shop operations, planning, build, load-in, repertory changeovers, and maintenance of scenery / props throughout the season.
  • Create all scenic shop drawings under the guidance of the Technical Director.
  • Consult with the Technical Director on supervising build, installation, rigging, and strike of sets, safety training and oversight, and the maintenance the of shop and its equipment.
  • Direct and instruct production crew and interns on theatrical skills and best practices.
  • Perform skilled carpentry work through the use of a variety of materials related to the construction of theatrical scenery as needed.
  • Lead changeovers and perform routine maintenance to shows running in rep.
  • Supervise strike and load-out at the completion of the season.

What We Can Offer
  • The hourly rate is $16.25

What We Require
  • One year of related experience demonstrating the required skillsets.
  • Valid driver's license.
What You Will Need

  • The ideal candidate will have strong collaboration, communication, and technical skills, and be able to maintain high quality / standards and a safe and supportive work environment while working on tight timelines.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Strong AutoCAD and / or Vectorworks proficiency to produce clear working drawings for shop staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in stage carpentry, welding, rigging, set electrics, and safety.
  • Ability to drive a 26’ box truck.
  • Teaching / mentoring experience preferred.
