Reporting to the Director of Prestigious Scholarships and Fellowships at Hunter College, in addition to the duties listed in the CUNY Title Overview, the Academic Study Abroad Program Manager will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Develop and implement a faculty and students study abroad training program.
  • Oversees and promotes College Academic Study Abroad and Exchange Visitor Programs (J1) to enhance Hunter students’ opportunities for Global Learning and Global Citizenship.
  • Develops ways to engage students in study abroad opportunities at multiple points of entry by diversifying offerings to cover the entire range of international experiences across all levels of language proficiency.- Collaborates effectively with graduate programs, and seeks out new ways to engage students and faculty in study abroad experiences to take an entrepreneurial approach to study abroad opportunities that includes a keen understanding of the needs, potential, and constraints on Hunter students.
  • Creates awareness of study abroad opportunities among faculty; recruits faculty-student exchange programs and related activities; liaises with Academic Affairs, language and area studies departments and programs, and works with other College units to promote study abroad opportunities.
  • Promotes, advises, supports, selects and prepares students applying for Fulbright Scholarships and all language-intensive scholarship programs.
  • Creates awareness of and promotes the Chancellor’s Global Scholarship program and study abroad opportunities among students by actively recruiting students for study abroad programs through multiple points of contact.
  • Works closely with Academic Affairs to coordinate (and initiate, when appropriate) globalizing the CUNY Curriculum grants.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.



Bachelor's degree and six years’ relevant experience required.



  • Master's Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Significant experience in a study abroad program and fluency in a second language preferable.
  • Familiarity with CUNY’s procedures and academic regulations is desirable.



  • Manages College academic study abroad and exchange programs.
  • Develops, cultivates, organizes and promotes study abroad programs, faculty-student exchange programs, and related activities, working with faculty, Academic Affairs, and other College units
  • Negotiates and establishes agreements and procedures with international program partners
  • Develops communications such as marketing events, orientation sessions, web pages, and informational materials
  • Advises and assists students and faculty participating in study abroad programs
  • Represents College in university-wide study abroad forums; applies CUNY rules and regulations regarding exchange programs and agreements as needed
  • May seek external funding to support international study programs
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
