Job Description:

The Specialist for Civic Engagement in Student Engagement & Inclusion (SEI) will assist in developing and implementing a new Civic Engagement Plan. The Specialist reports to the Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Inclusion and contributes to an office culture that prioritizes student learning, engagement, recruitment, and retention at Columbus State.


Civic Engagement
Works closely with office leadership to develop and implement a civic engagement plan that provides opportunities for students to learn about and get engaged in their local community. Responsibilities include strategic planning, developing partnerships, facilitating training, providing virtual & in-person communication, recruiting, marketing, and assessment. Supports and empowers students to engage in community service, political processes, co-curricular pathways, & inclusive leadership opportunities. Connects students to appropriate resources and engagement opportunities in the office, college, or community.

Student Employee Mentorship
Serves as a mentor to student employees. Assists SEI leadership in assigning and delegating tasks, provides guidance and support, and works with departmental leadership to resolve conflicts, and contributes to the professional development of student employees. Develops relationships with campus and community partners to expand student access to new opportunities, resources, and support networks.

Various clerical tasks, including maintaining proper program records updating spreadsheets, forms, event flyers, etc. Assists in updating communication through internal systems and collaboration with Marketing. Ensures compliance with institutional policies and procedures. Maintains confidentiality of student records and other confidential information.

Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and community members.

Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity while engaging student employees and assisting in their development, with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College and business partners. Attends all required meetings and training.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into a computer. The employee will regularly sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time. Employee converses verbally with others in person, by telephone, and utilizing virtual tools such as Microsoft Teams. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. The employee occasionally lifts or exerts a force of up to 25 pounds when moving boxes, literature, and other materials.

Associate degree with a minimum of 1 to 2 years of college or relatable professional experience with a preferred focus on or understanding of student affairs. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
