RISD is actively seeking an Interim Director of Student Accounts to join its Student Financial Services Department for a two-year term appointment to lead the Student Accounts operations through the implementation of Workday Student. The Interim Director of Student Accounts will ensure the continuous daily operations of the Student Accounts area through the implementation of a new student information system, Workday Student.

The SFS staff work to help students and their families seek, obtain, and make the best use of all resources available to help finance the costs of attending RISD.
The Interim Director of Student Accounts oversees and manages all activities associated with student billings totaling in excess of $130M and with student collections. Responsible for analyzing, developing, recommending, and implementing policies, procedures, systems, tools, and models for all student accounts and collections to allow for efficiencies, ensure best practices, and support an accurate and secure student account system of record, billing, and collection. Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations. Combines an understanding of daily operations and an in-depth knowledge of the structure and contents of the student ERP system to evaluate, develop, maintain, update, test, and implement the most effective and productive billing and collections uses of our ERP system. Leverages the capability of the system to maximize operations for student accounts.

Essential Functions
- Oversee and manage all student account billing, collections,
cashiering, and disbursement control functions totaling in excess
of $130M.
- Hire, train, develop, mentor, evaluate, and supervise the
student financial services staff, processes, cashiering functions
and day-to-day activities to ensure efficient and effective
operations. Provide leadership within the Student Financial
Services department ensuring the delivery of high quality customer
service.
- Implement, maintain and utilize the online self-service systems
including the preparation of electronic/on-line tuition billings,
online payments, and payment plans.
- Prepare, process and file the Federal Reporting requirements
for the 1098-T tax forms. Actively engage with Admissions and the
Registrar to reduce risk and ensure solicitation compliance is
met.
- Reconcile the student accounts module with the general ledger
on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis, or as requested. Analyze
data, make decisions based on results and provide information as
needed to senior leadership and auditors.
- Responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance
and reconciliation of the College’s online payment portals for
Continuing Education, RISD Global, Admissions, special scholarship
events, and departmental deposits.
- Evaluate, design, test, implement, optimize, manage and
maintain RISD’s student account and billing ERP system (Ellucian)
software, including but not limited to defining system rules,
writing user documentation, and creating billing tables in order to
support the effective and efficient operations of the Student
Accounts area and to ensure compliance with federal
regulations.
- Develop, recommend, implement, evaluate and modify as
appropriate student collection policies and procedures to minimize
past due accounts and tuition billing policies and procedures.
Prepare and analyze regular aging reports, create tools to assist
staff in collection efforts, and coordinate activities of external
collection agencies. Communicate policies and procedures in clear,
timely, and customer friendly ways.
- Engage Financial Aid in the development and coordination of
accurate and timely student bills, disbursements, refunds and
proactive communications with students.
- Work with Enrollment Management leaders to ensure the Student
Accounts office and responsibilities align with the RISD strategic
plan and Institutional policies. Provide input to and participate
in enrollment planning efforts. Serve on a number of campus-wide
committees, as assigned.
- Serve as the student/family point of contact for the College’s
Student Health Insurance program. Work with University Health Plans
to setup the website and determine pertinent dates. Complete
semester billing, waivers, and reconciliation.
- Stay abreast of regulations and trends impacting student
accounts and advise and guide RISD on such matters.
- Demonstrated ability of managing accounts receivable.
- Extensive knowledge of a student information system.
- Experience using reporting software to extract and analyze
information from a database.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people and have strong
communication skills.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and
experience required
- Seven years’ experience in administering financial aid programs
with a minimum of three year’s management/supervisory experience
required
- Master’s degree preferred
- Ellucian Colleague experience is preferred
