The Reed College Dance Department invites applications for a full-time, one-year visiting position in Dance, beginning Fall 2022. Salary is competitive and includes a full range of benefits as well as support for travel and research.

The position is focused in Dance Studies. The successful candidate would teach five courses over two semesters, including introduction to dance studies, a junior dance studies seminar, and three additional dance studies, studio, and/or hybrid courses in the candidate’s area(s) of expertise. We especially encourage candidates who have expertise both within and beyond the Euro-American concert tradition and those with a background in comparative race and ethnicity studies. Our pedagogy emphasizes the integration of theory and practice; the ideal candidate would seek to enhance work in the classroom with studio activities and vice versa.

As a small, collaborative department, all members of the dance faculty contribute to the supervision of senior thesis projects, the production of performances and events with students and visiting artists, and the ongoing development and administration of the dance program. Above all, we seek candidates with a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, a lively intellectual and artistic engagement with the field, and an interest in contributing to a vital and diverse curriculum. Ideal candidates will have Ph.D. in hand or A.B.D. by the start of the appointment. Information on Reed's Dance Department is available here.

Reed College is a community that believes cultural diversity is essential to the excellence of our academic program.
