Appointment: Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Art, with a focus in Digital Media to begin Fall 2022.

The Art and Art History Department at the University of Puget Sound, an independent liberal arts university in the Pacific Northwest, seeks a tenure-line Assistant Professor of Digital Media who is a practicing artist.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will teach video and/or other time-based and related media such as animation, web-based work, sound, and/or virtual reality. In addition to teaching time-based digital coursework, the candidate will teach a Foundations of Digital Media course, which will include photography and imaging through the Adobe suite and other tools. The candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching undergraduate majors and non-majors, have a willingness to teach foundations courses regularly, and the senior studio seminar on a rotating basis; standard teaching load is six courses per year. Candidates are encouraged to articulate how they bring an ethos of valuing diversity to their work as educators.

Additionally, candidates must contribute to the university's core curriculum and demonstrate the potential for leadership roles. Other responsibilities include academic advising, departmental and university service, and professional growth.

Qualifications:

Master of Fine Arts degree required. 2 years of teaching experience preferred.

The candidate must be a practicing artist with a strong background in Digital Media. We envision an artist who has a deep conceptual understanding of contemporary artistic inquiry and who is able to push the boundaries of their/her/his discipline in meaningful and inspiring ways. Skills include facility and experience with Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, and related software, photography/use of camera, and the ability to teach visual processes and concepts through digital media.
