Director of Enterprise Risk Management & Compliance

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Who are we

Education is at an inflection point. Universities are quickly evolving and new strategies are reshaping the education experience. We are Utah Valley University — the largest student enrollment among public universities in the state, with approximately 41,000 students. We are one of a growing number of institutions in the nation offering an integrated dual-mission model that combines the rigor and richness of a first-rate teaching university with the openness and vocational programs of a community college.

Who you'll work with

Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance is housed organizationally in the Office of General Counsel, alongside a team of collaborative and enthusiastic legal professionals. The Office values diversity and invites the Director to bring their full self to their work at UVU. OGC further believes that its team delivers best results from the foundation of a healthy work-life balance. We act as thought-partners and problem-solvers with university leaders to achieve maximum impact through UVU's strategic educational mission and objectives.

What you'll be doing

  • Build a data-driven enterprise risk management architecture for the University, and report on risk- and compliance-related matters to the Board of Trustees Audit Committee and Cabinet.
  • Develop tools, practices, and policies to analyze and report enterprise risks, and to manage risks (i.e., treat, transfer, tolerate or terminate) according to an enterprise risk management framework, including coordinating insurance claims with Utah State Risk Management.
  • Chair or provide key inputs into the University's enterprise risk or other committee that oversees the enterprise risk management process and ensures alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Oversee a full-time Compliance Manager and the University's Compliance Program within an overarching enterprise risk management structure.

The Compliance Program offers compliance coordination and problem-solving to decentralized compliance owners across the organization, and oversees both conflict-of-interest and minors-on-campus safeguarding protocols. A collaborative team of legal, compliance, and audit partners will support the Director in their ERM and compliance work. UVU offers an excellent benefits package which includes a generous leave policy, 12 paid holidays, affordable medical and dental insurance options, life and AD&D insurance, tuition waiver (undergraduate resident) for employee and dependents and substantial employer contribution to a retirement plan.
