About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:
Northeastern University Campus Planning and Real Estate (CPRE) department is seeking a Senior Real Estate Project Planner to guide the architectural program, building design and campus infrastructure plan for the Northeastern Roux Institute in Portland Maine. The Northeastern Roux Institute is a new innovation hub devoted to deepening and expanding the digital economy of Maine.

CPRE is responsible for planning, programming, and designing campuses that meet current and future needs for Northeastern students, faculty, and staff. CPRE work falls into several key categories, including design, space and capital planning, sustainability and resiliency, real estate, and the global campus network. The CPRE team values collaboration, community engagement, sustainability, agility, and diversity and inclusion, and strives to incorporate these components into our day-to-day work.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the VP of Campus Planning & Real Estate, the Senior Real Estate Project Planner will be responsible for guiding the architectural program, building design and campus infrastructure plan for the Northeastern Roux Institute in Portland Maine. The Northeastern Roux Institute is a new innovation hub devoted to deepening and expanding the digital economy of Maine. Currently located in leased space with one of the Institute's corporate partners, a plan has been launched with the Institute's major benefactor, Dave and Barb Roux to create a permanent site on a 13-acre multi-use campus on the waterfront. As the interface between the members of the Institute and the developer's project team in charge of development and construction, the Senior Real Estate Project Planner will ensure that the program and design decisions reflect the experiences of successful projects at Northeastern, the input of critical members of the university community, and the innovation and flexibility that Northeastern has come to demand in the creation of new spaces. The Senior Real Estate Project Planner must be based in Maine proximate to Portland in order to carry out this important coordinating role. Successful candidates will be expected to be adept in or committed to understanding the local permitting processes, zoning, land use and economic issues, and the housing market of the greater Portland area. This role is a primary liaison with the developer's project team who will directly oversee contracts and budgets to deliver the project as defined. The Roux Institute will be both an anchor tenant and a development partner so the Senior Real Estate Project Planner will assist with necessary approvals from senior leadership of Northeastern and the Roux Institute.

The work will include a range of space, real estate and planning activities at scales from campus-wide approaches to capital renewal, to smaller project level planning, with the need to easily pivot between each.

The Senior Real Estate Project Planner will develop effective communication materials that distill complex ideas into concise options and tradeoffs. The Senior Real Estate Project Planner will place high value on customer service, partnering with clients and connecting them to the broader planning vision and transactional decisions.

Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in planning, architecture, real estate or a related field
5 to 10 years-experience in overall design, planning or managing complex academic mixed-use projects, both individually and as part of a master plan.
  • Experience in leading the planning of large mixed use academic, research or complex development projects.
  • Proven experience in maintaining schedule and milestones that assure programming and project success.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment where key stakeholders engage via technology.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, team building and management skills that assure meeting all milestones and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

Salary Grade:
