Position Summary Information

Key Responsibilities
Manage the operational and technical needs of Halbritter Center to 1) facilitate the
effective presentation of performing arts/cultural events, and 2) leverage building
resources for the benefit of the college and local communities.

FT Administrative, salaried/exempt
  • Assess, negotiate, and execute technical needs for all events in the Halbritter Center (Rosenberger Auditorium and Black Box Theatre); develop associated budgets for equipment and staffing assignments; confirm technical riders for contracted events.
  • Develop a pool of support labor for events, including student and contracted staff.
  • Assemble annual building schedule with input from relevant academic departments, Performing Artist Series, Distinguished Lecture Series, Conferences & Events Office; advise on budgets for performing arts/cultural events.
  • Collaborate with Conferences & Events to accommodate College and rental needs for assembly/performance space; develop budgets for these events to ensure the College recoups costs.
  • Interface with Music and Theatre departments specifically to assess needs and provide stage/black box service as required. Undertake limited carpentry for some academic Theatre presentations.
  • Supervise maintenance of the building and related equipment (including SmartStage, sound shells, lights, etc.) in collaboration with the Facilities Department.
  • Provide or collaborate with other departments to provide technical expertise and support for non-performing arts events within available resources.
  • Contribute to conversations about programming to ensure balance of forms and perspectives across performing arts disciplines.

Position Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, Masters preferred, in technical theater arts, dance, music, or related field from an accredited college or university. Preference will be given to individuals who possess strong field experience in the technical aspects of theater, dance and music production.
  • Experience in stage, set, sound and lighting design and implementation; stage management; computerized lighting systems; stage carpentry; stage rigging; appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
  • Supervisory and/or teaching experience; preference given to supervision and/or teaching of college-age students.
  • Detail-oriented and flexible; able to manage multiple projects and set priorities and schedules for effective workflow.
  • Effective communicator, both orally and in writing.
  • Equipment certifications (Genie Lift, etc.)
Supervision Required/Given
  • Reports to Director of Conferences & Events
  • Consults with Museum Director on Performing Artist Series events
  • Collaborates with Facilities; Theatre; Music; Student Groups
  • Supervises student labor
Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands
  • Able to lift, push or pull objects up to 100 pounds using appropriate tools.
  • Able to perform a broad range of physical movement including prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in operating equipment, using tools and preparing written material.
  • Near and far vision in reading, operating equipment, and viewing productions. Hearing is required to set up, manage and operate sound systems and to communicate with others.
