Administrative Director, Continuing Medical Education       Responsibilities

 

The Administrative Director of Continuing Medical Education at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is directly responsible for the day-to-day administration, supervision, coordination, operation and continuous improvement of the Continuing Medical Education (CME) office.

In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, oversight and development of systems, procedures, and policies to ensure continued compliance with accreditation and regulatory agencies. You will establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external constituents and will be responsible for the financial and business activities for all DGSOM CME activities, including roughly 100 educational programs annually, including departmental grand rounds.  You will also  provide leadership for the CME program, including the development of meaningful office goals, revenue targets, performance measures, and operational plans for the office. 

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum 5 years experience managing a CME office or similar operation, preferable in an academic medical center, understanding of ACCME accreditation standards
  • Ten years of organizational leadership experience including management of personnel, organizations, projects, academic partnerships, information/data systems, resources and finances; to include experience in successful organizational process improvement and/or project management leading the design, development and/or delivery of educational programs.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism in dealing with a variety of individuals including physicians and other health care professionals, University administrators and leadership, external and internal customers.
  • Effective problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze data and make appropriate decisions and recommendations
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience building positive, collaborative relationships with stakeholders while maintaining a focus on accreditation compliance requirements.
  • Expertise in applying adult education principles and introducing effective approaches to educational planning, instructional design and delivery for both in person and remote instruction, evaluation and outcomes measurement. 
  • Deep understanding of teaching and learning methods, practice and pedogogy and how they impact and are supported by technology
  • Outstanding financial management, grant writing, budget planning, financial forecasting and negotiating skills, building and managing budgets and advanced Excel skills
  • Superior analytic skills to assess compliance with ACCME, AMA, medical specialty boards, the university and other selected accrediting bodies' standards and regulations with appropriate determination of needed action steps.
  • Experience leading process improvement and innovation in educational development.
  • Proven record of the ability to communicate with and influence key stakeholders in the educational arena including senior administrators, course directors and other educational professionals across the university
  • Experience supervising and mentoring staff in a fast-paced, complex environment with multiple projects, tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Experience creating executive level presentations using Microsoft suite products including Powerpoint and Excel
