Job Summary/Basic Function: This position reports to the Director,
Financial Aid and Scholarships and is responsible for the following
duties and responsibilities:
- Coordinates all aspects of the scholarship program, determines student eligibility for funds available and monitors continuing eligibility, maintains and reconciles funds, processes payments; maintains on-line scholarship application software, promotes Brazosport College and Foundation scholarships, and works with donors regarding scholarship requirements;
- Oversees Federal Loan program and works with Department of Education and servicers to resolve issues with loans;
- Provides in-person loan counseling for all students receiving loans;
- Determines satisfactory academic progress eligibility each semester prior to loan disbursement and reconciles loan disbursements on a monthly basis with internal auditor and Department of Education;
- Evaluates and verifies applications using established needs analysis procedures to award aid (Federal, State, and Institutional Funds) to student;
- Advises applicants regarding financial aid options by explaining federal, state and institutional regulations and procedures, rights and responsibilities of federal student loans, and academic requirements;
- Coordinates childcare assistance programs, both college and work source funded, including determining eligibility;
- Executes scheduled and ad hoc computer processes;
- Keeps informed of changes to financial aid programs to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations as well as institutional policies;
- Participates in annual trainings and professional development;
- Supports the College’s student success efforts; and
- Performs other duties of a similar nature of level as assigned.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required from a regionally accredited college or university;
- At least 2 years of experience in a higher education setting such as: financial aid, admissions, advising, business office, or other student services related area;
- At least 1 year of financial aid experience preferred;
- Experience with a Student Information System (Banner, POISE, PeopleSoft, etc.) and with US Department of Education websites and software is preferred;
- Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills;
- Ability to work in a team environment;
