The Department of English in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences seeks applicants for a tenure track faculty position in journalism beginning August 1, 2022. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels. All areas and specializations in the field of journalism or related fields are encouraged to apply.

With thirty-four full-time faculty members, the Department of English offers a B.A. with emphases in both Literature and Language and in Journalism as well a dual degree that leads to both a B.A. in English and a B.S.Ed. in  Secondary Education. The department also supports an on-campus M.A. (with literature and rhetoric/composition tracks) and an online M.A. designed for in-service language arts teachers. The department houses a myriad of impressive student publications including the Spectator (student newspaper), Omnino (undergraduate research journal), On Tap (general-interest magazine), and Odradek (literary magazine).

RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate level in the Journalism track; supervising student media operations, including VSU’s student news organization, The Spectator; maintaining scholarly productivity; participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• PhD in Journalism or related field;
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship;
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage;
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting;
• Interest in audio, video and digital aspects of storytelling;
• Some experience with reporting, editing and/or designing journalistic content.
• A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds.
