The Helen S. Breidegam School of Nursing and Public Health at Moravian University is seeking a qualified applicant for a full time, tenure track position to provide support for its rapidly expanding programs. This position is for a nine (9) month appointment, to teach in the areas of Psychiatric-Mental Health and Community Nursing.

The successful candidate will teach courses required for undergraduate and accelerated BSN students. Effective teaching, community engagement, and student interaction are essential. The faculty member will be expected to teach and serve within the belief of an integrated liberal, professional, and civic engagement arts tradition. The nursing programs embrace an interdisciplinary, creative, and innovative approach to health that works towards advancing health equity and reducing health disparities.

The Helen S. Breidegam School of Nursing and Public Health provides students with an education that blends compassionate art with scientific inquiry to achieve a transformative education deeply rooted in a rich liberal arts tradition and a commitment to the development of new graduate programs and reconceptualize educational programs from our professional regulatory bodies. The nursing programs embrace an interdisciplinary, creative, and innovative approach to health that works towards advancing health equity and reducing health disparities. Moravian University offers CCNE accredited undergraduate and graduate programs, including those for pre-licensure nursing students, Registered Nurses (RN to BSN), and a 16-month accelerated post-baccalaureate program for non-nursing graduates. The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) allows students to select from the Clinical Nurse Leader, Nurse Administrator, and Nurse Educator tracks, along with Nurse Practitioner tracks which prepare students for roles as Family Nurse Practitioner and Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioners in Acute or Primary Care.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

General

  • Participates in the governance of the Moravian University nursing program through the
  • Nursing Faculty Organization and its appropriate working subcommittees.
  • Implements the program philosophy, conceptual framework, and content/process instructional plan to ensure integrity of the nursing curriculum.
  • Complies with University and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
  • Complies with University and departmental policies outlined in the faculty handbook.

Supervision/Mentoring

  • Serves as academic advisor for nursing students.
  • Establishes positive faculty-student relationships with effective intercultural communications in formal and informal contacts.
  • Serves as a professional role model for students in the clinical and classroom settings.
  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate clinical faculty.
  • Coordinate appropriate clinical experiences.

Teaching and Scholarship

  • Typical teaching load includes teaching 6 courses throughout the year.
  • Evaluates student learning outcomes in various classroom and clinical agencies.
  • Evaluates student performance in accordance with established standards defined internally by the Nursing Faculty Organization.
  • Utilizes pedagogies appropriate for a diverse student population and a pluralistic society.
  • Develops a plan for professional growth and maintains a scholarly trajectory.

 

POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS: Cuts and punctures: caution should be taken when assigned to risk areas. Assault and battery: security department is available for assistance. Radiation exposure and chemical and biological hazards: gloves and protective aprons available.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

Education: An earned doctorate or significant progress towards a doctoral degree preferred. Also a master's degree with a major in nursing and experience in nursing education or related clinical experience is required.

Training and Experience: A minimum of two years of recent clinical experience is required. Demonstrated previous or current competence as a nursing instructor, with experience in student advisement preferred. Effective verbal and written communication required with other faculty, administration, hospital and clinical agency personnel, visitors, and external professional agencies.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The individual must be licensed or eligible for professional nurse licensure in Pennsylvania.
