Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The School of Nursing ( SON ), within the College of Health and Human Services ( CHHS ) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington ( UNCW ) invites applications for full-time, clinical practice track faculty at the rank of Clinical Instructor, Clinical Assistant Professor, or Clinical Associate Professor. Appointment to rank is dependent on qualifications relative to the university, college, and school standards. Practice track faculty are initially appointed on a contract of up to 5 years that is renewable based on performance. Practice track faculty are eligible for promotion to higher practice track ranks.

The primary teaching responsibilities will be assigned across undergraduate and graduate nursing programs to meet the needs of the SON . In addition, clinical practice track faculty have expectations related to advising students, research and scholarship, performing professional and community service and outreach, and contributing to ongoing program evaluation and improvement depending on their rank.

The successful candidate(s) will be expected to relocate to North Carolina and maintain a campus presence as part of the School of Nursing faculty.

This position will begin August 15, 2022.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

For the ranks of Clinical Assistant Professor or Clinical Associate Professor
  • Doctoral degree in nursing OR a doctorate in a related discipline with a baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing


For the rank of Clinical Instructor
  • Master’s degree in nursing
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with the following:
  • Teaching experience and current clinical experience
  • Family nurse practitioner ( FNP ) or psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners
  • Psychiatric or community specialty
  • Background in evidence based practice
Required Certifications or Licensure
  • North Carolina RN license
  • Nurse practitioner (NP) faculty must have an active North Carolina NP license and board certification.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The School of Nursing has an outstanding legacy of serving the people of southeastern N.C. through education, scholarship, and service. The SON is dedicated to excellence in the development of health care professionals through in-depth education, professional partnerships, applied research, regional engagement and community outreach and impact. The SON is located McNeill Hall, a state-of-the-art facility that includes offices, classrooms, a large lecture hall, computer laboratories, student success areas and learning commons, and the Simulation Learning Center. The Simulation Learning Center uses high, medium and low fidelity human patient simulators as teaching and learning tools for nursing education. Through the use of simulation, we strive to create a realistic environment and a powerful learning experience that promotes cognitive, affective, physical and social development of the student as well as the incorporation of inter-professional collaborative experiences for students across the degree programs in the College.

The SON offers the following degree programs:

Nursing
  • BS in Nursing (Prelicensure, RN- BSN online)
  • MS in Nursing (Nurse Educator)
  • Post-Master’s Certificate in Family Nurse Practice
  • DNP (Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Executive Leadership, and Post- APRN concentrations)
Clinical Research
  • BS in Clinical Research
  • Post- Baccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Research Operations
  • MS in Clinical Research and Product Development
Over 2,500 undergraduate and nearly 600 graduate students are enrolled in programs within the SON . Currently, the SON has 80 full-time faculty. The SON’s online bachelor’s degree in nursing program is ranked 7th among 2019’s “Best Online BSN Degrees” by US News and World Report.

The College of Health and Human Services was created in July 2010 to provide UNCW with a new mechanism to link and focus its health-related research, professional continuing education, and health knowledge dissemination and application. In the formative stage of development, the CHHS is currently home to three professional schools: School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, School of Nursing, and School of Social Work.
