Primary Duties
Under general administrative and medical direction of the Lead Physician and Executive Director of WellCat Services, and using established standardized procedures and processes, the Physician is responsible for providing efficient, cost-effective medical care to California State University, Chico student-patients. The Physician is a licensed, highly skilled health care practitioner who provides a wide range of primary health care services, including assessment, diagnostic, preventative, and health maintenance services; performing minor surgery; conducting physical examinations; diagnosing, treating, and managing illnesses and injuries; ordering tests and interpreting the results; counseling patients on preventive care; family planning; outpatient gynecology; mental health assessment; referrals to specialists; and regularly performs health education and participates in health promotion activities. This position may be assigned to either primary care or the acute care clinic, and oversees and directs the delivery of medical care by other healthcare professionals and practitioners in WellCat Health Center ( WCHC ).

WellCat Health Center ( WCHC ) is an outpatient acute care clinic, staffed by physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who provide medical care to students enrolled in the University in accordance with policies set by the Board of Trustees of California State University. An in-house licensed pharmacy, federally-certified laboratory, and x-ray department complement the services available. The basic clinic schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.

  • The principles and methods essential to primary care medicine, and in the diagnosis and treatment of common medical disorders, and in the assessment and response to emergency situations, and the ability to effectively apply these principles.

Required Education and/or Experience
Graduation from a medical school and completion of a residency training program in a primary care field such as family medicine, general internal medicine, gynecology, general pediatrics, emergency medicine, preventive medicine accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education ( ACGME ) or equivalent.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :
Incumbent must possess and maintain:
  • A valid and relevant State of California license to practice medicine.
  • A current American Board of Medical Specialties ( ABMS ) or American Osteopathic Association ( AOA ) board certification appropriate for the assigned duties.
  • A valid Drug Enforcement Agency ( DEA ) certificate and number for prescribing controlled substances.
  • A current cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator ( CPR / AED ) certification as appropriate for the assigned duties.
Note: In accordance with Executive Order 943 a physician can be given clinical privileges pending initial certification, but must be board certified as soon as possible, but no later than two years after the date of hire. Additional Requirements for this Position

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. This position is required to stand or walk for approximately six hours per shift. Keyboarding and mousing is required to operate computers. Light lifting is required to transport or use medical records, instruments and supplies. May be required to push or pull patients in wheelchairs. Must be able to travel across campus to other offices and buildings for meetings and events.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position will work in the WellCat Health Center in offices and treatment rooms that are kept clean. The duties of this position involve direct, personal contact with patients. There may be exposure to infection, communicable diseases, contaminated material, and radiation. Infectious material hazards involve regular exposure to disease-bearing specimens, body fluids, wastes, and blood-borne pathogens. May be required to reposition patients and/or push or pull wheelchairs. May require occasional additional work hours. May be called back for disaster response or emergencies. Benefits

Eligibility for standard CSU benefits is based on an appointment of half-time or more for a period exceeding six months.
