The Medicines for All Institute (M4ALL) was founded in 2017 with the goal of improving access to safe, effective, and affordable medicines. Funding for M4ALL comes from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, corporations, non-profits, and government agencies. The organization is growing rapidly as it finds new research opportunities making drugs more accessible through the application of M4ALL’s innovative approaches to pharmaceutical chemistry and engineering. The Institute invites applications for the position of Financial Associate to join a collaborative team of professionals who are passionate about M4ALL’s mission.


Typical Duties
The person in this position will be responsible for the following job duties and reports to the Finance Administrator of M4All:
  • Assist with tasks related to meeting rigorous reporting requirements as stipulated by sponsors for both the Global Health and Federal Divisions, to include running reports, assisting with meeting material development, and providing administrative support for routine and scheduled meetings.
  • Provide purchasing support for M4ALL’s labs and undergird the purchasing process with administrative support.
  • Assist with tasks related to budget development and associated deliverables
  • Assist with regular monitoring of expenses, commitments, and variances across all projects and communicate routine status updates
  • Serve as M4ALL point of contact and hold primary responsibility for document retention and cataloguing.
  • Conduct monthly account reconciliations and notify others of any issues requiring action.
  • Work closely with the Finance team to track payments, resolve outstanding invoices, encumbrances, and any other items that may arise.
  • Support HR partners as personnel changes occur that have fiscal impact by maintaining and updating personnel action forms as needed in conjunction with the Finance Administrator.
  • Serve as liaison between M4ALL consultants and VCU in coordinating contracts and tracking payments/resolving issues.
  • Support and abide by all VCU and M4ALL established operating norms, procedures, and controls; ensure activities are compliant with University and state policies.
  • Support meetings with taking minutes and editing and distributing as appropriate.
  • Assist M4ALL in meeting deadlines with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties and participate in special projects as assigned in support of the M4ALL mission
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or combination of education, training, and equivalent work experience that equates to a degree
  • Highly organized and possesses an ability to work independently and creatively to resolve issues
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel

  • Familiarity with business principles, finance practices, or knowledge of grant reporting or another relevant area
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and to excel in a deadline-driven environment
  • A keen attention to detail with an ability to spot numerical errors
  • The successful candidate must be able to be adaptable while managing multiple workflows and quickly adjust to changing work priorities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in higher education to include knowledge and experience in working with grant and contract procedures
  • Knowledge of reconciliation procedures of fiscal records and reports
  • Working knowledge of SAS, Banner, Chrome River, Bank of America Works, and University policies surrounding procurement activities
Compensation
Up to $50,000 annually plus a variety of benefits options including group health, dental, life and disability insurance, flexible reimbursement accounts, retirement plans, as well as professional development incentives.
