Northwestern University, one of the world’s leading private research universities, seeks an accomplished subject matter expert and collaborative leader to serve as the Senior Director of Export Controls and International Compliance.

 

Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice President for Research, the Senior Director plays an integral role in strengthening and sustaining efficient, customer-oriented, and compliant research security infrastructure and support services across Northwestern. This experienced leader and subject matter expert develops, implements, and enhances University-wide export control and international compliance policies and practices with the goal of sharing knowledge and enabling informed action by faculty and staff navigating the complex and evolving regulatory environment that governs the international dimensions of Northwestern’s research enterprise.

 

The primary value of the position is to continue to develop and socialize a shared vision for institutional awareness of and efficient compliance with relevant laws and sponsor and University policies. The Senior Director fosters research enterprise growth while ensuring export control compliance and a responsible approach to foreign engagement in order to strategically leverage opportunities consistent with Northwestern’s mission, values, and policies.  A full description of the role can be found here.

 

Qualified candidates will possess an advanced degree and at least five years of experience in export control and international compliance in a complex and decentralized academic, research, government, or corporate setting. Direct experience with export control management and general knowledge of compliance and related risk issues facing higher education will be conducive to effective leadership in this role.
