Job Description:

The Bob Graham Center for Public Service at the University of Florida invites applications for a lecturer in the field of Citizenship and Civics. We are seeking a dynamic individual with demonstrated experience in student mentorship and in local, state, and/or national-based civic engagement, public leadership, and/or public service. The position is a twelve-month, non-tenure-accruing appointment, to be renewed on a year-to-year basis beginning spring 2022, with an opportunity for advancement in UF’s Lecturer track. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package.

In 2020, UF’s president signed the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge and identified the Graham Center as the primary facilitator of civic engagement on UF’s campus. Through a variety of efforts, including establishing the non-partisan Gator Get Out The Vote Coalition, UF’s 2020 Voting Rate was 76.7%, compared to 66% at campuses across the nation. To continue strengthening civic and voter engagement on UF’s campus, the successful candidate will be expected to:

• Serve as the Center’s Civic Engagement Coordinator, which may include, but is not limited to, the following: (25%)
  • Implementing the Center’s non-partisan voter registration, voter education, and voter turnout initiatives, which includes coordinating with the Campus Vote Project Ambassadors, TurboVote, UF student government, off-campus entities, and leading the efforts of the Center’s Civic Engagement Cabinet and Gator Get-out-the-Vote Coalition.
  • Coordinating tabling, presentation, and event opportunities.
  • Coordinating and developing the Center’s community outreach initiatives, including speaking at K-12 and other educator events in Gainesville and throughout Florida.
  • Collaborating on other student-led initiatives at the Center and advising student groups.
• Serve as the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ Civic Literacy Coordinator to help ensure the University meets the new legislatively-mandated Civic Literacy Requirement, including working closely with the Political Science and History departments to support AMH2020: The United States since 1877 and POS2041: U.S. Federal Government. (25%)
• Advise and manage the College’s pre-law initiatives, including Mock Trial, and serve as the instructor of record for the associated course POS3679. (20%)
• Teach one course each fall, spring, and summer semester, related to civic engagement and/or public policy. This may include teaching the Center’s undergraduate civic engagement course, AMH2020, POS2041, the Center’s course in Florida politics connected to the Tallahassee Internship Program, relevant internship credits associated with the Center’s experiential learning initiatives, or other relevant topical courses. (25%)
• Perform other duties as assigned to help develop and further the mission and expand the reach of the Graham Center locally, statewide, nationally, and internationally. (5%)

Expected Salary: The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package. Minimum Requirements:

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Public Policy, Public Administration, or closely related field by August 15, 2022.
• Three years of experience working in local or state civic engagement, public leadership, or public service-oriented positions, or equivalent experience in academic program coordination.
• A commitment to working in and engaging with underserved communities and providing inclusive access to the Center’s programs and initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

A doctoral degree or other terminal professional degrees, or equivalent relevant experience.
