Qualifications for two Assistant Professors in Rhetoric and Writing Studies with expertise in Professional and Technical Writing: PhD in English, Rhetoric and Writing Studies, and/or Professional and Technical Writing, or closely related fields; a research profile in any one of the following or a combination: environmental/climate justice, social justice, rhetorical ethics, antiracism and diversity, equity, and inclusion, and/or writing for change. A minimum of two years teaching experience, including online instruction, and demonstrable experience promoting and enhancing diversity required. Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)
The Rhetoric and Writing Studies Program, housed within Appalachian State University's Department of English, invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in Rhetoric and Writing Studies with expertise in Professional and Technical Writing. We are open to a range of scholarly interests but are especially interested in scholars working in intersections of environmental rhetorics and social/climate justice, rhetorical ethics, antiracism, and writing for change.

Desired experience or qualifications include WPA ; antiracist and DEI pedagogy; editing and document design; multimodality; facilitating professional development; professional or technical writing experience; writing for nonprofits, community development, or social justice organizations; community organizing; and grant writing.

As a recipient of the CCCC Writing Program Certificate of Excellence, our Rhetoric and Writing Studies program seeks candidates with an interest in innovative curriculum development who can broaden existing expertise and help to build the new RWS program's overall mission and vision, which centers social justice, writing for change, and rhetorical ethics at the heart of an integrated undergraduate and graduate experience in rhetoric and composition and professional and technical writing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These positions are full-time, 9-month, tenure-track positions. Teaching load is 3/3 with additional reassigned time for administrative leadership in the program. Faculty are expected to produce at least 2 peer-reviewed publications (or equivalent) every 3 years, and participate in committee work and related service activities.
