The Accountant will provide support to the Associate Vice
Chancellor/Controller's Office, within the division of
Administration & Finance. The UNC Asheville Controller's
Office seeks to provide a high level of support to the University
and its stakeholders that is competent, approachable, reliable,
empathic, and responsive. The Accountant will be responsible for
representing these pillars in both attitude and action. This
position reports to the Accounting Manager and will have a close
working relationship with most of the other staff in the division.
Strong and healthy relationships with other University faculty and
staff will also be crucial to the success of this role, with the
ability to consult of issues and modify financial information to
suit the audience for information across campus. This individual
will be able to work independently and must be exceedingly well
organized, flexible, and possess the ability to work with a high
level of professionalism. A strong working knowledge of
generally accepted accounting principles and their application to
accounting practices is essential. An ability to work within an
automated environment to develop a high level of software
proficiency will also be necessary to success. This knowledge will
be used in the day-to-day operations of the
department. The Accountant is also expected to have a
strong working knowledge of the UNC Asheville policies and
procedures as well as the various agencies who set State and UNC
System policies including but not limited to the Office of State
Controller ("OSC"), Office of State Auditor ("OSA"), Office of
State Budget Management ("OSBM") and The UNC System
Office. This position will play an integral role in the
management of Finance Systems, primarily Ellucian's Banner Finance
System. This position will be a resource to the department
for development, implementation, and maintenance of internal data
analysis tools and reports and participate in the month end and
year end close. Year-end close duties include annual
journal entries for financial statement preparation, preparation of
financial statement footnotes and state required financial
worksheets, variance analysis and working with both third party and
state auditors during the audit process.
