Job Summary:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks applications from individuals who will develop and support curriculum that significantly extends or enhances educational opportunities for students in the department. We are particularly interested in applicants who:

i) Have a commitment to excellence, distinction and innovation in teaching, advancement of pedagogical methods, and a strong motivation to improve the department's educational programs and engage students in experiential learning.

ii) Can instruct one or more core mechanical engineering classes at the undergraduate level, offer elective classes at the senior/graduate level and assist with instructional support of labs and senior design projects. Educational offerings should involve significant experiential activities that require students to bring together different aspects of the curriculum. The specific courses taught will depend on expertise, interest and department needs.

iii) Engage in activities that advance boundaries of engineering education and are disseminated in conference and/or peer review papers related to engineering education.

iv) Have the potential to engage industry and other external collaborators in an educational context.

Education:

Required
PhD or other terminal degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, with a commitment to excellence, distinction and innovation in instructional activities and educational programs.

Qualifications:

Hiring at the Assistant or Associate level will depend on accomplishments and experience including but not limited to; a strong record of teaching, classroom innovation, accomplishments in the scholarship of teaching and learning, independently developing and designing a range of courses in a field of expertise, assessing student performance, providing formal or informal advising on students' academic and career directions, supervising student employees delivering instruction, scholarly contributions to assessing engineering education practices, and collaborating with faculty and staff in the development of teaching strategies.
