Position Purpose
Dartmouth Alumni Relations engages the global Dartmouth community of alumni with one another and the College. The Senior Director of Volunteer Engagement ( SDVE ) will serve as the key strategic and operational partner to the Vice President of Alumni Relations related to creating volunteer structures and managing the volunteer resources staff to optimize the volunteer experience for alumni. The Senior Director of Volunteer Engagement collaborates with the Vice President to develop volunteer engagement goals, strategies, and operating plans, focused on leveraging volunteers to understand, promote and maximize support for Dartmouth’s priorities, mission, and key initiatives. The SDVE would be responsible for ensuring there is an inclusive, welcoming volunteer community who adds value to and maintains the strong alumni network Dartmouth is famous for.

Bachelors plus 6 or more years' experience or combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
* Bachelor’s degree required and 6+ years of experience or combination of education and experience
* 10+ years of experience in alumni relations or the equivalent
* 10+ years of staff and volunteer management experience
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; speaks and writes persuasively about the mission and programs of the College
* General knowledge of Advancement and AR processes and policies
* Demonstrated ability to lead and influence diverse constituencies
* Strategist; able to introduce new ideas and initiatives while respecting Dartmouth’s long-standing traditions
* Ability to develop programs, products, and services to meet constituency needs
* Ability to provide oversight and strategic allocation of financial resources
* Excellent planning and organizational skills
* Project management skills
* Collaborator who works well as part of a team
* Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable working in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment

Description
In collaboration with the Vice President, sets strategic direction for volunteer engagement structures and programs. Leads a volunteer management organization in accordance with strategic direction and resource optimization. Oversees the vision and execution of volunteer projects and deliverables, reunions, and volunteer weekends/meetings. Creates a consistent, engaging volunteer journey for Dartmouth alumni with multiple points of entry, types of roles, and demonstrated impact. Coaches, leads, and mentors a team of volunteer managers to support the work of Dartmouth’s alumni volunteers. Inspires and promotes a culture where effective teamwork, collaboration and innovation are expected, recognized and rewarded. Leads by example with regard to appropriate risk-taking, cross-organizational cooperation, and standards of conduct. Motivates the team by creating an environment that promotes positive communication and demonstrates the value of their work to Dartmouth and the alumni body. Creates knowledge and skill redundancies within the Volunteer Engagement team to support volunteer needs without interruption. Oversees compliance for Dartmouth alumni organizations including constitutions, fiscal responsibilities, and other governance requirements.
