About the Opportunity:
Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor sought to teach full time
in the Roux Maine Biotechnology Professional Science Master's
(PSM). This position is located at the Northeastern University
Portland Campus. The Roux Maine Professional Master of Science
(PSM) in Biotechnology degree program is designed to allow students
to pursue advanced training and excel in bioscience while
simultaneously developing highly valued business. Building on the
Northeastern Boston PSM, the Roux Maine Biotechnology degree is
characterized by instruction in advanced bioscience or mathematics,
business courses, and a graduate co-op work experience.
The instructor will be responsible for teaching two core
biotechnology courses (Cell Culture Processes for Biopharmaceutical
Production, Molecular Cell Biology for Biotech, and/or Protein
Chemistry) and lead the two laboratory courses (Basic Biotechnology
Lab Skills and Biotechnology Applications Laboratory). Teaching
responsibilities are subject to modification based on the program's
need and at the Director of Life Sciences and Engineering Programs'
discretion based upon time commitment of the service requirement.
In addition to core teaching responsibilities, this individual will
be responsible for a service component within their role, which
will include acting as a liaison between the Roux biotechnology
program and Maine based partner organizations, student advising,
the creation of new graduate work or customized courses,
maintaining updates to existing curriculum, and program
administration. This unique position seeks to integrate
professional practice into the classroom, specifically with respect
to the Maine Bioscience ecosystem.
Teaching Responsibilities include the following: review and
learning of key teaching points within existing instructor guides,
and a willingness to support high-quality teaching and standards
through: preparation of lectures based on course materials
provided; effective facilitation of rich, respectful debates and
discussions in an in-person or online class; timely review and
grading of assignments with appropriate coaching and feedback to
the students; consistent connection with students and their
performance; adherence to Northeastern's policies.
Candidate must have a Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry,
Cellular Biology or related field by the appointment start date,
and commitment to teaching excellence at the university level.
Position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to
work productively and successfully interact with students, faculty,
staff and industry partners. Demonstrated industrial experience in
the biotechnology industry desirable, but not required.
