Department Summary

The Institute of Ecology and Evolution (IE²) facilitates research and graduate education in ecology and evolutionary biology. The Institute fosters a collegial and stimulating intellectual environment for world-class research in molecular evolution, evolutionary genetics, evolution of development, and microbial, population, community, and ecosystems ecology.
Position Summary
The HR and Office Manager provides essential human resources support to the Director, Assistant Director, principal investigators, and research staff, as well as overseeing daily operations for the IE2 office. This position has direct oversight of IE2 office staffing, providing support to the directors and overseeing essential operational functions for the unit. The HR and Office Manager reports to the Assistant Director for Finance and Administration, with input and guidance from the Director, and is responsible to supervise a Purchasing Technician and up to five student workers.
Duties for this position include: - Human Resources Management - Manages all unit-level human
resources tasks including employee searches, hires, payroll, and
terminations
- Office Management - Interfaces with staff on facilities needs
and supervises reception
- Accounting and Financial Administration - Oversees direct
procurement and contracting, and facilitates travel
Minimum Requirements - Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of skills and
experience
- Four (4) years of office experience in a higher education
setting or similarly complex multi-unit organization
- One year of supervision experience
Professional Competencies - Maintain a working knowledge of HR processes and
procedures.
- Highly efficient and organized approach to work with strong
attention to detail and thoroughness, and the ability to manage
multiple tasks utilizing exceptional time management
skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability
to communicate effectively and respectfully with faculty, staff,
and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word,
Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships
and collaborate.
- Commitment to working with faculty, staff and students from
diverse backgrounds in an inclusive, welcoming environment; ability
to effectively work and communicate with individuals from varied
cultural backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience working in higher education
- Highly proficient in Banner database or similar
system
- Experience in coordinating travel arrangements and
reimbursements
- Experience managing and tracking contracts
- Experience with payroll processes and systems
- Experience applying administrative policies, rules and
procedures in a higher education setting
