The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in Syracuse University is seeking an individual to teach TRF 443 The Business of Development, Production & Post Production at our Los Angeles campus on Mondays from 6:00-9:00pm for Spring 2022. (3 credits)

Course Overview : This class will thoroughly explore the process by which films and television programs evolve…from inception of ideas through the development, production and post–production process. Students will discover how the business environment of the entertainment industry shapes the creative process and they will see what challenges must be met in order to bring about the best art and the most successful bottom line. They will understand how their ability to navigate this landscape will impact their success in the industry. Instructor and professional guest speakers will provide real world perspectives. This course will include a mix of lectures, visual presentations, practical assignments, conversations with guest speakers currently working in the entertainment industry, handouts, and vigorous student participation. Qualifications
The ideal candidate is a current or past entertainment industry professional who has an expansive first-hand knowledge in the areas of development, pre-production, production and post-production in the theatrical or television environments. Job Specific Qualifications
Candidate must be available to teach Monday nights from 6PM to 9PM at the SULA Center in Sherman Oaks. Previous teaching experience at a University level preferred but not mandatory. Responsibilities
Teaching assignments may include the following:

• Developing a syllabus.
• Ordering in advance books and materials for students in the class to purchase on or before the first day of classes.
• Preparing for classes.
• Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others.
• Grading in a timely manner student assignments and examinations for the course; and turning in mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.

• Ability to personally instruct the class in the assigned classroom on the days it is designated to meet.
• Ability to hold office hours.
• Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.
• Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
