Job Description

Arizona State University Graduate College is currently seeking an energetic self-starting business analyst to join our technical team. The ideal candidate will have strong business and analytical skills and will support the technical goals of the Graduate College through analysis, implementation, evaluation, and review of all Graduate College technology. Duties will include, but are not limited to, interviewing business users and creating detailed specification documents, coordinating project plans and delivery, preparing and executing quality assurance plans, preparing SQL statements, auditing data and reports to ensure accuracy, training users on systems and providing day to day support to ensure that systems are effectively utilized. The ideal candidate will have a background working in a fast-paced environment supporting multiple projects at the same time.

Business hours for the Graduate College are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. ASU is a diverse enterprise with a wide variety of work and learning modes, locations and a commitment to sustainability, innovation and employee work-life balance. Salary Range: $53,700 - $94,500 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Identify opportunities for new and enhanced systems and computer applications. Facilitate discussion and design of applications and coordinate with ASU's University Technology Office, the Graduate College and other business units to ensure successful implementation.
  • Facilitate decision-making by communicating across project teams and functional areas; elicit requirements using interviews, requirements meetings, surveys, document analysis, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, and workflow analysis.
  • Identify process gaps and apply process improvement methodologies to define future state.
  • Serve as liaison between the functional project team and the technology support team, as well as faculty and staff across university departments impacted by the technology stack.
  • Prepare and maintain business process documentation and user guides.
  • Design technological solutions and write requirement specifications, develop and execute test plans, and work with technical staff to coordinate the implementation and control efforts to ensure forecasted benefits are achieved and sustained.
  • Coordinate and execute test plans for new and enhanced applications and in support of system upgrades.
  • Define, develop, and implement quality assurance practices and procedures, end-user test plans, and other QA assessments. Ensure that all tests are conducted and documented to meet the user's needs. 
  • Create and develop analytical reports and dashboards to support new project initiatives and to enhance current reporting capabilities for end users. 
  • Provide troubleshooting and user support for PeopleSoft and other computer applications identified and managed by the Graduate College.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years of experience in procedural, management or systems analysis work; OR, Six (6) years of experience in procedural, management, or systems analysis work; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/ or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.



Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with diverse populations and cultures.
  • Experience in technical and procedural implementation of administrative systems in a higher education environment.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and Academic Advising.
  • Experience writing functional and/or technical specifications for new or enhanced system modifications.
  • Experience working with stakeholders to identify business needs and working with technical teams to drive solution implementation.
  • Experience creating test plans and executing Unit and System testing and coordinating User Acceptance testing.
  • Experience in systems analysis, business process modeling, application design and the software development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project planning techniques.
  • Experience documenting and mapping business processes.
  • Experience in using analytical and problem solving abilities leading to problem resolution.
  • Experience writing complex SQL statements.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective relationships


Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to walk or travel moderate distances to perform work.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
