Job Description:

BASIC FUNCTION
  • Closely collaborate with the academic advising office, faculty advisors, academic departments, and staff across the university to provide a student-centered undergraduate advising experience.
  • Advise and monitor progress of assigned advisees, ensuring progress toward graduation in a timely fashion
  • Maintain an understanding of the curriculum, university policies, and campus resources
  • Develop supportive programs and resources to support students and faculty advisors in collaboration with the Academic Advising Coordinator
  • Participate in on-going training in all aspects of academic advising, including the use of technology and data management systems that support effective advising
  • Create and lead a peer advising model
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Advise and monitor progress of assigned advisees, ensuring progress toward graduation in a timely fashion
  • Utilize a proactive advising approach, initiating contact with advisees as appropriate and implementing holistic advising practices
  • Collaborate with and support other advisors and faculty across campus
  • Assist in planning and executing of programs, as required
  • Work closely with the Registrar, Athletics, Counseling Services, Wellness Coordinator, Academic Center for Excellence, Disability Services, Student Activities, and academic departments to facilitate programs that meet the needs and developmental trajectory of the students.
  • Work closely with career services in order to provide up-to-date information to students related to career and major choices.
  • Assist the Office of Academic Advising to coordinate and administer the first-year student registration and advising process
  • Assist at-risk students with course selection to support student success goals; act as the liaison between at-risk student populations and the necessary offices that can provide support in areas of need
  • Coordinate efforts to continuously provide a high-quality and student-centered academic advising experience for students
  • Maintains up-to-date notes on a student's record

Requirements:

Required :
  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, student personnel, counseling, or a related field in hand by September 2022
  • A minimum of two years of experience in counseling, academic support, or academic advising (may include time as graduate student)
  • Demonstrated experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of first year student issues and advising techniques to support persistence to graduation
  • Commitment to NACADA's Core Values of Academic Advising
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication proficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to work with electronic student records
  • Strong record of student advocacy and productive and collaborative working relationships
  • Understanding of FERPA
Preferred:
  • Experience working with Ellucian Colleague; Ellucian Self-Service, Tutortrac, Microsoft Office, Zoom, Webex, Advocate
  • Demonstrated skills in assessment
