Description

This recruitment is being conducted to fill temporary assignments only and not being conducted to establish an eligibility list from which regular appointments will be made, as such this recruitment may close at any time. Employees hired in this capacity are considered at will and do not accrue property interest in the assignment and are not eligible for benefits.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Under the general supervision of a Dean, provide skilled and complex technical support for a variety of theatrical, dance, music, and related live events in the following specialty areas: prop design, prop construction, stage set design, stage set construction, rigging, lighting, sound, and the operation/use of stage equipment.

WHERE YOU'LL WORK
Established in 1925, Ventura College was one of the first community colleges in California and currently has an enrollment of 14,500 students. Located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, the 112-acre campus is set in the rolling hills of Ventura - so close to the ocean that there is a clear view of the Channel Islands from several spots on campus.

COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT
Board Policy 3506 COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement for Employees and Students requires that all students and employees of the Ventura County Community College District, which includes faculty, staff, volunteers, student workers, and administrators, be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. All new employees must be fully vaccinated by the first day of employment. An exemption may be requested by individuals who cannot be vaccinated due to medical and/or religious reasons. Employees who receive an exemption will be required to wear a mask or face covering while on District property and/or facilities and will be required to undergo COVID-19 testing twice weekly. Representative Duties
Prepare and administer sound for productions and live events by operating various mixers, sound consoles, and related equipment; create sound effects based on the specifications provided by the Technical Director. E

Construct and repair sets and scenery for various productions and live events using a variety of equipment including radial, table, circular, and vertical saws, welding tools, and other hand and power tools. E

Mix and apply a wide variety of paints and flame proofing or fire retardant chemicals to sets. E

Perform rigging and flying of curtains, backdrops, special props, and other apparatus required for a production or event; operate a stage counterweight system. E

Operate lighting equipment, video and multimedia equipment, and computer controlled light consoles; hang, install, and prepare lighting for various productions and live events. E

Prepare, review, interpret, and implement working plans, drawings, blueprints, props, light plots, and other written and verbal information concerning a wide variety of performing arts productions and live events. E

Investigate, diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve a wide variety of technical malfunctions. E

Provide technical guidance and work direction to staff and student workers. E

Communicate with users to establish, discuss, or clarify technical requirements of productions and events. E

Interpret and enforce fire, safety, and health regulations for the protection and safety of facility users and audiences. E

Provide technical assistance and supervision at the facility when rented by off-campus groups. E

Perform related duties as assigned.

E = Essential Duties

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or its equivalent AND three years of experience in two or more of the following areas: prop design, prop construction, stage set design, stage set construction, rigging, lighting, sound, and operation/use of stage equipment.
ORAn associate degree with coursework in theatre arts, technical theatre, or a related field AND Two years of experience in two or more of the following areas: prop design, prop construction, stage set design, stage set construction, rigging, lighting, sound, and operation/use of stage equipment. ORA bachelor's degree in in theatre arts, technical theatre, fine arts, lighting, stage design or related field ANDone year of experience in two or more of the following areas: prop design, prop construction, stage set design, stage set construction, rigging, lighting, sound, and operation/use of stage equipment. ORA graduate degree in theatre arts, technical theatre, fine arts, lighting, stage design or related field.

Valid California Driver's License
