The Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership (ACEL) is committed to enhancing diversity and inclusion in our professions. Our aim is to recruit, support, and retain a scholar who will bring diverse life experiences and expertise that will assist ACEL in reaching and serving audiences and communities who have been historically underserved. The faculty member will engage in advancing the agricultural communication program in ACEL by demonstrating excellence in teaching and research. The faculty member will be expected to teach face-to-face and online undergraduate courses that support agricultural communication students and graduate courses serving students across the ACEL M.S. and Ph.D. curricula. Graduate and undergraduate academic and career advising are expected. A novel research agenda that complements the teaching appointment in the areas of public relations/marketing, crisis/risk management, public opinion, discourse analysis or similar area is expected. The faculty member is expected to interact closely with all components of ACEL and to collaborate with our partners at Ohio State ATI. In addition, the candidate will engage with targeted key partners campus-wide and in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). The incumbent will also be expected to seek internal and external research support and capacity building funds. The successful candidate is expected to develop a comprehensive program that includes engaging in dynamic interdisciplinary scholarship, and teaching excellence.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND
ABILITIES:
Ph.D. in agricultural communication, journalism, mass
communications, public relations, or a related field; excellent
written and oral communication skills. The candidate must have an
excellent record of/interest in teaching undergraduate and/or
graduate courses. Research
interest/expertise in one or more of the following areas: public
relations/marketing, crisis/risk management, news, and feature
writing. Applicants need to provide evidence of their ability or
potential to secure extramural funding from private and public
sources as well as evidence of scholarly ability and productivity.
Ability or potential to provide excellent graduate and
undergraduate advising with a clear desire to serve students and
stakeholders from diverse groups.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND
ABILITIES:
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty from other degree
programs in ACEL and a willingness to contribute to the overall
ACEL mission. Experience in the following areas is desirable:
public relations writing, news writing, or business writing;
mentoring diverse individuals; applying agricultural communication
expertise in international development settings, and expertise in
quantitative research methodologies. Experience or evidence of
interest in addressing CFAES grand challenges of Sustainability,
One Health, Rural-urban interface, and preparing the next
generation of scientists and leaders.
