    Department Summary
    Counseling Services (CS) is a department integrated with University Health Services in the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management. CS provides single-session intervention; short term, focused individual therapy; group therapy; consultation; education and prevention outreach; and referral services to university students. Most psychological services are covered by the mandatory health fee. Counseling Services also provides consultation to and educational programs for faculty and staff.
    Position Summary
    The Academic Year Senior Staff Therapist/Psychologist provides psychological intervention, prevention, and postvention programs and services to the university community, primarily to University of Oregon students. The Senior Staff Therapist/Psychologist provides programs and services that target serious mental health issues, as well as those that are developmental and preventative in nature. Experience with developmental and serious mental health issues relevant to university students is required. This position provides clinical services such as same-day scheduled or drop-in appointments, single-session intervention, initial clinical assessment, short-term individual therapy, group therapy, crisis intervention, and case disposition; completes clinical and other administrative tasks, develops, implements, and evaluates educational and prevention outreach programs, provides consultation to faculty, staff, students, parents and families, and other mental health/health care providers, and participates in department and university meetings and committees. This position may supervise and/or train doctoral interns, graduate employees/trainees, practicum interns and/or externs. This position reports to a member of the CS leadership team.

    The Academic Year Senior Staff Therapist/Psychologist adheres to university and department policies, State of Oregon statutes pertaining to the practice of psychology and relevant ethical codes.

    Some evening and weekend hours will be required.

    This position begins approximately one month prior to the start of fall term and ends approximately two weeks after the end of spring term. Most accrued vacation leave is expected to be used during student breaks, with exceptions made based on operational needs.
    Minimum Requirements
    Psychologist:
  • Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program. All degree requirements must be complete prior to start date.
  • Completion of an APA- or CPA-accredited doctoral internship prior to start date.
  • Eighteen months of experience
    - with range of clinical issues, ranging from developmental issues to more serious
    psychopathology;
    - providing short-term therapy;
  • If not currently licensed, must be licensed in Oregon within two years of hire and must have an approved residency contract with the Oregon Board of Psychology within three months after start date.
  • If licensed in another state, must be licensed in Oregon within three months of hire.

    Therapist:
  • Master's degree in counseling, couples and family therapy, or social work. Applicants with master's degrees must be currently licensed and able to obtain Oregon licensure within three months of hire.
  • Eighteen months of experience
    - with a variety of clinical issues, ranging from developmental issues to more serious
    psychopathology;
    - providing short-term therapy;

    Special Qualifications:
  • Position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and routine screening of Medicaid and Medicare Exclusion Lists. Employee loses eligibility for employment if on the List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) and/or System of Award Management (SAM)
  • Must be in compliance with UHS policies regarding tuberculosis screening, measles and mumps (MMR), seasonal flu, hepatitis B, and other immunization requirements
    Professional Competencies
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence and commitment to multicultural organizational development.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to articulate an understanding of the role of a counseling center on a university campus.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • At least nine months of experience providing psychological services to college or university students.
  • Nine months of experience in a college or university counseling center which included collaboration with campus partners.
