The Office of External Affairs encompasses three teams: 1) Communications and Marketing; 2) Development and Constituent Relations and 3) Finance and Administration.

The award-winning Communications and Marketing team provides strategic communications, external and internal communications and marketing services for the School across a variety of digital, print and physical platforms. This includes brand and identity management, digital strategies and web services, editorial and content strategies, visual communications, media and public relations, social media and integrated marketing campaigns.

We are seeking aMultimedia Editor who works as part of the Communications and Marketing team to provide high-quality video production and audio support for both marketing and internal communication initiatives. This position will edit, mix, and export multiple podcast episodes each week and edit video projects that support the efforts of our development/alumni team, trending social media videos and story-driven marketing features. This position reports to the Video Production Manager and will have many opportunities to collaborate with others in the office and will have exposure to a wide range of experts across the School. They will also assist the video production manager with on- and off-site video shoots.

This position occasionally works with the School’s multimedia team, which sits separate from the Office of External Affairs, on audio and video projects.We are looking for someone who is passionate about video production and has a willingness to learn and grow in this field.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist and collaborate with the Video Production Manager, and others in the Office of External Affairs, on high quality audio and video projects
  • Edit and mix multiple podcast episodes weekly using Adobe Audition
  • Under the direction of the Video Production Manager, edit long-form presentations and trim ZOOM meeting/lecture videos for the development team and help produce social and marketing videos using a combination of internally filmed footage, stock footage, music, and simple graphics within Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Assist the Video Production Manager on video shoots, both on- and off-campus
  • Help develop video scripts
  • Aid in scheduling video shoots, including booking on-campus rooms and coordinating with talent/subjects
  • Occasionally work with external vendors on various projects, specifically regarding logistics and scheduling
  • Maintain production materials including digital assets, video footage, audio recordings, images, graphics, and animations.
  • Under the guidance of the Video Production Manager, the Multimedia Editor is responsible for managing their daily work and responsibilities as well as moving forward short- and long-term goals in a timely manner
  • This position may require local travel

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Four years related experience
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula*
  • Proficient with Mac computers and demonstrated experience using Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition required

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to think strategically when editing audio and video projects
  • Possess strong aesthetic sensibility and understanding of visual composition and appropriate music selection
  • Some local travel may be required
  • This position works independently and is ideal for a self-starter seeking increasing responsibility and accountability
  • The position works proactively with other team members, identifying resources and approaches to achieving goals and outcomes

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:

  • Understanding of Adobe After Effects and Photoshop
  • Experience filming on-location and in a studio environment with Canon DSLR and Cine cameras
  • Familiarity with lighting equipment and media management
  • Working knowledge of mixing audio within Premiere Pro, including compression, EQ and volume control
  • Experience creating short form social media videos for various platforms, like Instagram, TikTok and Facebook
