Assistant Professor of History

Marshall University’s Department of History is seeking applications for a tenure-track position in mid-19th century United States history with a focus in the eras of Civil War and Reconstruction, at the assistant professor level, beginning August 2022. We seek highly qualified candidates who have a commitment to excellence in both teaching and research. Teaching areas for this position includes the Jacksonian era, slavery, the sectional crisis, Civil War, emancipation, and reconstruction as well as courses related to the candidate’s research interest. The ability to teach Public History is desirable.
The department also seeks candidates who will contribute to the University’s general education curriculum with its emphasis on a common First-Year Seminar and core curriculum courses that enhance students’ critical thinking, and the College’s support of interdisciplinary programs of study.

Candidates interviewing on campus must have official transcripts (undergraduate and graduate) forwarded directly to the chair of the search committee by their degree granting institutions, prior to an on-campus interview.   PhD in History by July 2022.
