The Department of Art at The Ohio State University at Lima seeks to hire a 9-month, non-tenure track, Visiting Assistant Professor. The VAP of Art position begins in Autumn 2022 and ends in Spring 2025. If this position can be upgraded to a tenure track the VAP will be eligible to apply and could receive credit for time teaching on the Lima campus toward tenure.
The Lima campus seeks an artist who has a demonstrated record of being an accomplished artists with his/her own professional artistic trajectory. The artist should have experience post MFA and or PhD of at least 3-5 years of teaching introductory, foundation level courses as well as drawing and 2D courses at the collegiate level. Experience teaching photography would be advantageous. The VAP also has a proven record of managing art galleries, scheduling and booking artists, and installing exhibits. The artist should have experience maximizing opportunities that would inform strategies for growing art programing on the Lima campus and increase the visibility of art within the region. The ideal candidate would be enthusiastic and charismatic in promoting art, art appreciation, and opportunities for increasing participation in the making of art. He/she would have strong interpersonal skills enabling positive relationships with students, faculty and staff.
Responsibilities of the position include teaching 4 courses (67%) during the 9-month school year and managing the Martha Farmer Art Gallery. The VAP would receive 2 courses (33%) per academic year as reassigned time for managing the Gallery. Preference will be given to candidates that live or will live in the Lima area.
Required: Candidate must have 3-5 years’ experience teaching introductory drawing and 2D art courses with an eye for growing art offerings on the campus. The successful candidate will have the skills to manage and coordinate a successful and visible campus Gallery.
