Job Details

The College of Education at Butler University invites applications for the position of tenure-track assistant professor beginning August 2022 to teach in and lead our Experiential Program for Preparing School Principals (EPPSP). We seek a colleague with expertise in educational leadership, experience teaching and leading in educational settings, and a demonstrated commitment to interrupting and eliminating inequitable outcomes, to removing barriers, and to creating inclusive conditions for all students in P-12 and in higher education, regardless of any predictive identities.

EPPSP is an innovative and experience-based master's program that prepares its graduates for the many challenges facing school administrators. It provides hands-on opportunities for future school leaders to demonstrate proficiency and to practice leadership skills in their schools. The experiential design of EPPSP incorporates each aspect of the principalship training model into a six-semester experience. Future school leaders enrolled in EPPSP work together intensely in a cohort group environment.

Candidates for the position should be able to support learners from a variety of backgrounds with strong, student-centered instructional methods, expand our leadership-focused credit and non-credit bearing programming, and demonstrate alignment with the COE Shared Commitments. The position may include some undergraduate teaching responsibilities.

Requirements include Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education or related field by contract start date (an advanced ABD with a confirmed completion date will also be considered), minimum 3 years experience as a school and/or district level leader, documented teaching excellence, a record or promise of published scholarship, and evidence of sustained commitment and action towards diversity, equity, and inclusion in educational settings. Experience as a superintendent or assistant superintendent, university teaching experience, and/or distance education experience is desired but not required. We are particularly interested in applicants from underrepresented identity groups in school leadership.

Application Instructions: Please send a letter of application outlining qualifications and including a statement of experiences with a diverse range of people and demonstrating commitment to inclusivity, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three professional references.

Materials should be submitted to Dr. Catherine Pangan, College of Education, Butler University, 4600 Sunset Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46208 or via e-mail to EPPSPSearch@butler.edu . Screening of applicants will begin November 1, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled. For more information about the College of Education, including our Shared Commitments, please visit the COE website at https://www.butler.edu/coe .

Company

Butler University

With just over 5,000 students, we’re relatively small as far as universities go. That’s a good thing—it means classes are more personally engaging and professors are always available to help.

But in terms of opportunity, Butler University is about as big as it gets. Indianapolis is one of the largest and most dynamic cities in the Midwest. As residents, Butler students can plug right into the real-world through internships, co-ops, undergraduate research, public performances, and community partnerships. These experiences provide working knowledge and skills that students need to excel after college.

A career at Butler University means so much more than a job.  Join the dedicated, innovative, and supportive community of faculty and staff that is moving Butler Beyond.
