Agnes Scott College invites applications, nominations and expressions of interest for the position of vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college. As chief academic officer, the vice president/dean is a key partner with the president and provides vision, leadership and direction to maintain the quality and vitality of the academic program. Agnes Scott College seeks an experienced and collegial leader who will build on the college's many successes and further strengthen its position as a leading liberal arts college for women.

The vice president/dean will play a significant role on the leadership team of President Leocadia I. Zak, who joined the college in 2018 as its ninth president. As a key member of a senior administrative team that values transparent leadership, collaboration and communication, the vice president/dean will ensure an ongoing commitment to the liberal arts while ensuring a modern curriculum and the continuing evolution of SUMMIT, the college's innovative signature experience, which prepares students for professional success through engaged global citizenship and effective leadership. The vice president/dean will continue the development of graduate education and other strategic initiatives to extend educational opportunities to new audiences and to ensure appropriate enrollment growth for the college.

The college undertook an inclusive strategic planning process in 2021 leading to Pathway to Success: the Agnes Scott College Strategic Plan 2021-2026. The plan's four pillars are:

  • Provide a Transformative Education that prepares students for success
  • Provide every student with a Pathway to Success
  • Institutionalize a culture of community
  • Employ external engagement for success

Candidates will be teacher-scholars (Ph.D. preferred) with academic achievements consistent with an appointment to the Agnes Scott faculty. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively with faculty and to articulate faculty and academic interests. In addition, the vice president/dean will have a strong commitment to women’s education, a dedication to advancing the commitment to diversity and inclusive excellence that are deeply held values at the college and skills in leadership, entrepreneurial thinking, communication and administration.

Founded in 1889, Agnes Scott College is an independent, national liberal arts college for women located in Decatur, Georgia, a vibrant city in metropolitan Atlanta. The college offers bachelor degrees in 34 majors, 32 minors, three dual-degree programs with neighboring Emory University and Georgia Institute of Technology and a growing set of post-baccalaureate and graduate programs. The college has 87 full-time faculty members of whom 72 percent are women and 29 percent are persons of color, a diverse population of 1,115 students and an engaged network of alumnae around the country and the world.

For the fourth consecutive year, Agnes Scott College has been recognized as the nation's #1 most innovative liberal arts college in the 2022 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings. Among U.S. liberal arts colleges, Agnes Scott also ranked #2 for best undergraduate teaching and #6 for social mobility. The college maintained its #1 spot for first-year experiences and rose to #2 for learning communities, both among all U.S. higher education institutions.
